On this auspicious occasion of National Science Day 2023, Faculties, research scholars and students of all schools gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Indian scientists and their contributions to the world of science.

In his Welcoming Address, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU highlighted the fact that this day holds a special significance as it marks the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman. This discovery was a breakthrough in the field of science and won Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, he added. He also mentioned that National Science Day is celebrated to recognize and appreciate the significant contributions of scientists and researchers to society, to promote scientific temper and encourage scientific thinking, and to inspire and encourage young students to pursue a career in science.

Professor Behera also cited the theme “Global Science for Global Wellbeing” for National Science Day for the year 2023 in light of India’s G20 presidency. He remarked that we are fortunate to witness this rapidly evolving scientific transformation by quoting Next Generation Sequencing (in Molecular Biology and Medical Sciences), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Nanotechnology and others which KISS-DU has been practicing for the last five years. It is a day to recognize the importance of science in our lives and to inspire future generations to take up science and contribute to the development of the country. He also urged – let’s all get together to celebrate science and work to turn India into a centre for scientific innovation and research. Professor Behera concluded his talk with a beautiful quote from Edward Teller “The science of today is the technology of tomorrow”. Professor Deepak Kumar Behera also stated that we are privileged to have Emeritus Professor KISS-DU, Professor Siba Prasad Adhikari, Former Vice Chancellor, Fakir Mohan University for receiving the C.V.
