KINS Observes Anti-Ragging Week 2026
Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), in collaboration with the KINS NSS Unit, observed Anti-Ragging Week 2026 from 12th to 18th August 2026 on the theme “Say No to Ragging, Yes To Humanity.” Its primary objective was to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of ragging and promoting a safe, harmonious, and ragging-free academic environment.
A series of awareness and outreach activities were organized involving students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The programme emphasized the importance of mutual respect, dignity, safety, empathy, and responsible student behavior.
The entire programme was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Principal Prof. Niyati Das, with the support of Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice Principal and HOD, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing; and the concerned faculty member Ms. Jayashree Pradhan, Assistant Professor, KINS, who also served as the Programme Officer of the KINS NSS Unit and played an active role in coordinating the Anti-Ragging Week activities.
As part of the Anti-Ragging Week celebration, an Anti-Ragging Awareness Session was conducted on 12th August 2026 at KINS. The session was conducted by Dr. Soumya Sonalika, Professor, IQACCO Coordinator KINS, KIIT-DU, for the students of GNM 1st Year and B.Sc. Nursing 2nd Semester.
Dr. Soumya Sonalika sensitized the students regarding the meaning and consequences of ragging, its physical and psychological impact, the importance of maintaining a respectful learning environment, and the responsibility of every student in preventing ragging. The students were also encouraged to speak up against any form of harassment, intimidation, or ragging and to seek appropriate institutional support whenever required. The session was interactive and informative; enabling students to understand that ragging is not a form of entertainment or tradition but a serious violation of the dignity, safety, and rights of fellow students.
An Anti-Ragging Programme was organized on 18th August 2026 with the active participation of students from: GNM 1st Year, GNM 2nd Year, B.Sc. Nursing 4th Semester, B.Sc. Nursing 6thSemester, KINS NSS Unit volunteers. The Rally commenced in front of the KINS College Building and proceeded towards Campus-5 and Magnet Square. Students carried awareness banners and placards displaying messages against ragging and actively raised slogans promoting a safe and supportive campus environment. The rally aimed to extend the anti-ragging message beyond the college premises and create awareness among the wider community. The participation of students and NSS volunteers reflected their commitment towards maintaining a ragging-free, safe, and inclusive educational environment.
As another major activity of Anti-Ragging Week, a Role Play and Flash Mob were organized on 18th August 2026 at Campus-03, OAT-1. The programme was performed by KINS students and NSS volunteers to communicate the harmful consequences of ragging through an engaging and creative medium. Through role play and flash mob performances, the participants highlighted situations related to ragging, its emotional and psychological consequences, and the importance of standing against such practices.
