The Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Gene Polymorphism in Disease Biology” commenced today at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) R. C. Das, Dean and Principal of KIMS, in the presence of several dignitaries including Prof. (Dr.) Manas Ranjan Behera, Medical Superintendent; Prof. (Dr.) Shubhransu Patro, Associate Dean and Head of the Department of Medicine, KIMS; Prof. Suresh Chandra Satapathy, Director of Publications, KIIT DU; Dr. Amlan Panda, Assistant Registrar, KIIT DU and Dr. Bandita Panda, Research Scientist and Scientific Officer, Research and Development.
A Digital Lab Manual containing detailed protocols for gene polymorphism analysis was released during the event, marking a significant step towards practical and research-based learning.
The detailed course structure and objectives were outlined by Prof. (Dr.) Shubhransu Patro, who emphasized the importance of understanding gene polymorphism in the context of modern medical science.
In the technical sessions that followed Prof. (Dr.) Manas Ranjan Behera presented on the relevance of gene polymorphism in disease diagnosis and therapeutics. Dr. Chandan Ku Ray Mohapatra, Head of the CTVS Department, delivered a presentation on the role of genome analysis in cardiovascular diseases. Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Dash, Head of the Neurology Department, elaborated on the impact of gene polymorphism in neurological disorders.
