Postgraduates from Dept. of Pediatrics bring laurels to KIMS

TheState PEDICON was held in Bhubaneswar on 31st Jan 2021, in which  around 200 pediatricians from all over Odisha attended physically and around 150 attended through virtual mode.  During the conference various competitions were organised and Post graduates from SCB, VSSMC, MKCG, SUM, HI-TECH, KIMS and AIIMS  were participated.

Dr.Gummalla Gyandeep, 1st year PG bagged  1st prize  on social paediatrics category on oral paper presentation. He presented ‘Implementation of Home Based Kangaroo Mother Care during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic through a Quality Improvement Initiative’’ decided learn after KMC was established after hospital discharge of ULBW neonates through virtual guidance.

Dr.Jishnu. K.R, 2nd year Post graduate received 3rd prize in paper presentation in neonatology. He presented “A study on the comparison of minimally invasive surfactant therapy with INSURE technique of surfactant administration in preterm babies with respiratory distress in a tertiary care hospital”. In this study , MIST group of oxygen neonates required significant lesser duration of oxygen therapy and hospital stay compared INSURE group.

Dr Ramkumar P, 2nd year post graduate, got 3rd prize in poster presentation. He presented “Infantile Hook Worm Disease”. It was found that formula fed young infants presenting with melena and coming from low socioeconomic conditions, hookworm infestation should be considered as a possible differential diagnosis. Stool examination may not always be contributory.
