KIMS Students Counseled on Commencement of Online Classes & Examinations
A Special Counselling Session on Covid-19, its management, the status of vaccine development as well as the conduct of examinations and commencement of the classes was organized for students of Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).
Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Student Counseling, KIIT Deemed to be University conducted the session, which was attended by all the students of KIMS from the first year to final year along with Dr. Nandita Sen, Students Coordinator; Col. (Dr.) Lalita K. Patnaik, MD & OIC, PG Cell (Academic), KIMS; Nodal Officers, Dr. Jayanti Mishra (first year); Dr. Jagadananda Jena (second year); Dr. Basanta K Behera (third year); Dr. Sudhir K Panigrahy (final year); Dr. Soumya Mishra; and Dr. Avinandan Sarkar, Deputy Registrar & Student Coordinator.
Dr. Priyabadini informed about the Students Counselling Cell in KIIT, its role and impact on the students of Engineering, Management and Law, etc. She advised the students to continue with their extra-curricular activities, along with academic activities, during the lockdown. Dr. Priyabadini further remarked, Hon’ble Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta is adapting to the new norms by doing some community outreach programs. Following his footsteps, the students can be inspired to do similar kinds of programs.
Dr. Lalita Patnaik briefed about Covid-19 disease, its management and the status of vaccine development. Dr. Nandita Sen informed about the MCI guidelines for the conduct of examination and commencement of the classes, while Dr. Jayanti Mishra thanked Dr. Priyabadini for her initiative to connect with the students on a personal level. Dr. Basanta K. Behera spoke about the situation arising due to the pandemic and conduct of online classes and examinations. Dr. Sudhir Panigrahy briefed on the final year examinations, which are being conducted now. He also shared the planning for the conduct of practical examinations for the final year batch.
While pointing out that the students were privileged to be a part of KIIT-DU, Dr. Soumya Mishra summarized the extracurricular works done by the students. KIMS is up to date with the academic schedule, as the students’ education through online mode had been taken care of from the beginning of the pandemic, she informed.
Students enthusiastically participated in the session and shared their experiences and activities during the lockdown. They narrated how they are utilizing their time to improve their relationship with their parents, doing research work related to yoga and mental stress, taking online courses on Art of Living, painting, cooking, and other creative works. Mr. Kunal Wadhwa (8th Semester), Mr. Preenon Majumdar(8th Semester), Mr. Pratyush Kanungo (2nd semester), Mr. Abhay Singh (2nd semester) and Miss Yashita Thakur (2nd year) asked their queries pertaining to examinations and practical classes.
Dr. Priyabadini concluded by thanking all the participants and telling students that they can reach out to her anytime via her mail. As many as 75 students attended the Counselling session via online mode.
