The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has achieved yet another significant milestone in providing advanced healthcare treatment in the State. It has become the first hospital in Odisha to perform the Transcatheter Mitral valve Replacement ( TMVR).
The Department Of Cardiac Sciences KIMS on last Saturday performed the TMVR on a retired professor who was associated with a reputed university. He was operated 17 years ago at AIIMS NewDelhi for his two damaged heart valves, replaced with a tissue prosthetic. In due course of time one of the valves got re-stenosed.
His pathological Mitral valve was replaced percutaneously without opening the chest wall. A high risk patient with multiple risk factors like uncontrolled diabetes, CKD and severe Mitral stenosis was managed effectively. The patient is doing well.
