The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) celebrated Blood Donor Day 2025 with a series of impactful events honouring voluntary blood donors — the true heroes who save lives and strengthen community health.
This year’s theme, “Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives!”, highlighted gratitude toward millions of voluntary donors worldwide and encouraged more individuals to become regular contributors.
The campaign, led by Dr. Sukanta Tripathy (HOD, Transfusion Medicine), Dr. Suman Sudha Routray, and Dr. Nirupama Sahoo, emphasized the need for regular, unpaid donations and promoted a culture of blood donation among youth and the public.
Events included a Walkathon to raise awareness, followed by a voluntary blood donation drive that saw enthusiastic participation from all hospital departments.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. R.N. Samanta; Dr. R.C. Das; Dr. Manas Behera; Dr. Subhakanta Choudhury; and Dr. A. Sharma, who commended the donors’ selfless contributions. Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahoo, President of the Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, Odisha, was felicitated for his exemplary work in promoting blood donation across remote areas, while Dr. Pravat Mohanty of the NSS Wing, KIIT received appreciation for inspiring youth through large-scale donation drives.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony where patients’ families expressed heartfelt gratitude to donors, reaffirming the shared commitment to ensure no patient suffers due to a shortage of blood.
The success of the celebration was made possible by the KIMS Blood Centre team, led by Mr. Trilochan Senapati, along with postgraduate students and administrative staff, reflecting KIMS’s dedication to humanitarian service and the Founder’s inspiring motto, “Art of Giving.”
