Dr. S. K. S. Parashar, School of Applied Sciences, KIIT-DU presented a talk on A Novel Approach of Non-Thermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet (NTAPPJ) Applications for in-vitro and in-vivo Oral Cancer in the Theme meetingon “Cold Plasma for Biomedical Applications held on 30th & 31st July 2021. The virtual meeting was organised by Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University; Laser and Plasma Technology Division, BARC, Mumbai; and Power Beam Society of India, Mumbai.

Cold Plasma/Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma, the most promising and attractive technology for clinical applications,  produces various highly active molecules and atoms without heat due to which its effects on living cells and tissues could be selective and tuneable. Despite several interesting demonstrations of Non-thermal plasma in blood coagulation and tissue sterilization, the biological and physical mechanisms of its interaction with living cells are still poorly understood impeding further development of non-thermal plasma as a clinical tool.

The two-day meeting was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. N. R. Karmalkar, Vice Chancellor, SPPU, Pune. Keynote Address was delivered by Prof A. K. Das, Former Vice Chancellor, Utkal University & presently Vice-Chairman, Odisha State Education Council (OSHEC). The reputed scientists  Dr. S. Ghori, BARC; Prof. Smita Zinzarde, Director, Institute of Bio-information and Biotechnology (IBB) SPPU, Pune;  Prof S. W. Gosavi, Director School of Physical Sciences; Prof V. L. Mathe, Dept. of Physics, SPPU University, Pune; Prof PVA Padmanabhan President, PSI, Mumbai; Dr. Archana Sharma, BARC; Dr. Amitava Roy, DST New Delhi; Dr. Israil Bhaktsingh, BRNS, BARC; Prof. S D Dhole, Head, Department  of Physics SPPU, Pune; Prof. Absar Ahmed, Director Nanoscience, AMU, Aligarh also gave  their views in the new field of Cold Plasma.  The concluding remarks were given by Prof. D. S. Patil, IIT Mumbai.

The  scientific committee of Non Thermal Plasma  appreciated the activities going on at KIIT-DU under the able leadership of Dr. S. K. S. Parashar  and his team of Doctors  working at  KIMS and KIDS engaged in this novel work of Non Thermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma JET Applications (NTAPPAJ) in different areas of Biomedical applications.

Dr. S. K. S. Parashar acknowledged the support and motivation extended by Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS.
