The Induction programme for 250 medical undergraduates of 2020 Admitted Batch was organized at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on 8th February 2021. It was indeed a proud moment for the students, who comprise boys and girls from all parts of India, as well as their parents as qualifying for a medical seat is indeed a humongous achievement today.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj. Gen. Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kumar Patnaik, Principal, KIMS & Director General, School of Medicine advised the students to become compassionate human beings and be empathetic towards their patients, because good human beings make good doctors and further good specialists. “What is worth doing; is worth doing well. Never try to be a ‘copy cat’, but instead develop your own personality as an individual. Every new student is like a ‘Diamond’ but needs to be polished by his or her mentors to prove one’s worth with one’s patients and peers. A great doctor is hidden within you; KIMS will bring out the best in you in the coming 5 ½ years”, he told the students.

He also showed them a presentation titled ‘Dreamz Unlimited’ about the journey of an Indian Medical Graduate becoming a Medical Leader eventually, at the same time being “Globally Relevant”.

Welcoming the newly-admitted students, AVM Prof. (Dr.) R. C. Das, Vice Principal congratulated them for taking admission into KIMS, one of the most prestigious institutions of the country with the tag of ‘Institute of Eminence’. He exposed them to the rigorous routine of the MBBS curriculum, stating that they will have to be focused and diligent from day one. He also stressed that KIMS is a Ragging Free Campus with a very vigilant Anti Ragging Squad and Committee.

The students were also shown small video films on the life of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and the realization of his dream of ‘Education as a means of Eradicating Poverty’.
