Founder’s Message on World Health Day

129

Access to quality healthcare is a crucial concern that cannot be ignored. For me, this issue hit particularly close to home since I grew up in a poverty-stricken family that lacked basic necessities. Through my experiences, I came to understand that education and health are the most significant factors in empowering society. It was this realization that motivated me to establish the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Bhubaneswar, with the aim of providing quality healthcare services to all members of society.

On this World Health Day, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and all others who tirelessly work to safeguard our well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic was a stark reminder of the need for a robust healthcare delivery system that can effectively address such crises. During this difficult time, KIMS provided exceptional treatment to patients in the state.

Since its inception, KIMS has revolutionized healthcare services in Odisha and the neighbouring regions, anchored on a genuine desire to promote a healthy society and provide advanced medical care. Our institution is committed to fulfilling the objectives of the World Health Organization (WHO) by promoting health, ensuring global safety, and serving vulnerable populations.

As the WHO celebrates its 75th anniversary, let us renew our efforts to guarantee the well-being of all. This milestone is an opportunity to acknowledge the significant public health advancements made over the past seven decades and to motivate action to tackle current and future health challenges.
