The world faced a profound sense of loss on the morning of 25th June, 2024 when we bid farewell to Dr. A Sharda, a remarkable soul. Dr. A. Sharda was a dedicated surgeon and an esteemed member of our community.
The words we often hear to describe her include “bold”, “courageous” and “dynamic”, a person who broke innumerable glass ceilings leaving behind a profound legacy. She was the first female Cardio-thoracic Surgeon of Odisha. Her work laid the groundwork for the CTVS department in many hospitals including KIMS where she joined in 2020.
Beyond the achievements and accolades, what stands out most is her selfless devotion to her work and the power of giving back and making a difference which deeply impacted countless patients she served. Her leadership, dedication, teaching, patient interactions, demeanour and integrity inspired and shaped many medical professionals.
Even in the face of adversity, including her battle with cancer, she demonstrated a resilience and strength that inspired all who were privileged to witness it.
She was a trailblazer surgeon and a brilliant human being.
Her journey might be concluded amongst us but the paths she has paved and the lives she has touched ensure that her presence will forever be felt. Her legacy is multifaceted, a testament to a life lived with purpose and passion. She was a shining star that burned out too soon.
