The Department of Paediatrics at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), in collaboration with the Academy of Paediatrics, Khurda, organized a Diagnostic Stewardship module today under the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Action Plan-2024.
The initiative aimed to promote the appropriate use of laboratory testing to guide patient management, optimize clinical outcomes, and combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
Experts deliberated on key topics, including diagnostic stewardship in tropical fevers, respiratory infections, ICU settings, and CNS infections. The module underscored the importance of accurate diagnosis and minimizing complications arising from inappropriate medical interventions.
“This approach is crucial in ensuring proper diagnosis and preventing unnecessary complications,” emphasized Prof. Nirmal Mohakud, Secretary of IAP Khurda and a senior faculty member of the KIMS Paediatrics Department.
The module featured prominent speakers, including Prof. Geetanjali Sethi, Head of Paediatrics at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Dr. Sunil Kumar Agarwalla from SCB Medical, Prof. Seba Ranjan Biswal, Head of Paediatrics at KIMS, and Prof. Rashmi Mishra from KIMS Paediatrics Department, among others.
