Department of Pharmacology, KIMS Organizes CME on ‘Medication Error & its Prevention’

A CME on “Medication Error and its Prevention” was organized by the Department of Pharmacology, KIMS on 9th April 2022. The CME focused on sensitizing the health care professionals including clinicians, nurses and pharmacists on types of medication error, its health hazards and prevention.

Dr. Ratikanta Tripathy, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology delivered the first talk on causes and various types of medication errors. This was followed by a presentation of various clinical cases by Dr. Debasish Maikap, Senior Resident from Department Rheumatology; Dr Mukesh Jain, Associate Professor from Dept. of Paediatrics; and Prof. Dr. K.P. Tripathy from Dept. of Medicine.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. Dr. Suparna Chatterjee from Department of Pharmacology, IPGMER and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, delivered her talk on “How to prevent medication error: At the level of health care worker and consumer”. This was followed by an interactive and enthusiastic panel discussion. The panellists were Prof. Dr. Lalatendu Mohanty, Head of Department, Medicine; Prof. Dr. Manas Ranjan Behera, Head of Department, Paediatrics; Prof. Dr. Prashant Pradhan from Dept. of Rheumatology; and Dr. Chaitali Pattanayak from Department of Pharmacology. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Managala Charana Das, Head of Department, Pharmacology.

Brig. Prof. Dr. Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Principal, KIMS; Prof. Dr. Ramachandra Das, Medical Superintendent; and Prof. Subhransu Patro, Vice Principal also spoke at the CME, which was attended by 80 health care professionals and 25 MBBS students.
