Dept of Urology, KIMS

The Department of Urology, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has achieved yet another milestone by successfully operating a very large Renal Cell Carcinoma measuring 13 x 10 x 9 cm left renal cell carcinoma laparoscopically.

A 51 years old patient was referred to KIMS with diagnosed large left kidney malignant lesions with enlarged para-aortic lymph nodes on CT scan. After fully evaluating and counselling, the patient had undergone successful laparoscopic left radical nephrectomy and lymph node dissection by Dr. Sumanta Kumar Mishra under guidance and assistance of Dr. J. B. Jagdeb. The patient was discharged on 3rd day post operation uneventfully. His biopsy showed clear margins and lymph nodes negative for malignancy. Such large cancers of kidney with lymph node enlargement are very complex and difficult to operate by laparoscopy and are done only in selected centers. These kinds of complex surgeries are milestones for the Department of Urology, KIMS. The Department of Urology has extended gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, KIIT, KISS & KIMS for reposing trust and support.
