World Kidney Day at KIMS National Seminar on Kidney Diseases and Transplantation

World Kidney Day has been observed at KIIT Deemed to be University under the banner of Indian Academy of Nephrology, Dialysis & Kidney Transplantation on 16th March, 2019. This year’s theme is “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere”.

Inaugurating the seminar, Mr. Soumyaranjan Pattnaik, MP, Rajya Sabha said, now a days providing health care for all is a challenge for all of us. You could not be healthy unless other people are healthy. He urged the Doctors, Health Care Experts, Policy Makers and Government to try and evolve viable solution to this challenge.  

Padma Shree Dr. Subrat Acharya, Pro-Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University said, the rate of kidney diseases is highest during last three years. Change of our life style is the main cause behind it. We should keep fit ourselves physically and mentally, he added. Dr. S. K. Agarwal, Secretary, Indian Academy of Nephrology said, public awareness on kidney diseases is the need of the hour.

Informing the new emerging danger like Chronic kidney disease due to unknown cause (CKDU), Dr. S. C. Dash, Professor of Nephrology, KIMS and Professor Emeritus, KIIT Deemed to be University said, it is seen in Narsinghpur, Badamba, Jajpur, Athagarh and Angul areas and many other areas of Odisha due to presence of heavy metal like Cadmium in the drinking water, which was found in a survey. CKDU has also been reported from other Countries like, Srilanka, Latin America & African Countries.

While, treatment is largely preventive in early stage, later on dialysis & transplantation are the best ways to survive. However every patient of CKD may not be suitable for transplant due to age & co-existing incurable systemic disease like Heart, Brain & Lung diseases. Among others, Prof. H. K. Mohanty, VC, KIIT Deemed to be University, Major General Dr. P. K. Pattnaik, Principal, KIMS also addressed on the inaugural session.

A galaxy of experts in Kidney diseases, Dialysis & Kidney Transplantation participated the seminar and discussed on recent developments in Kidney diseases treatment and Kidney transplantation.
