Udghosh- the National Open Quiz Contest held at KIIT

Qutopia, the official quizzing society of KIIT Deemed-to-be-University hosted the 15th Edition of  ‘Udghosh’- the National Open Quiz on Sunday, the 15th of December, 2019. There was a total registration of 438 teams and 98 of them being outside from the state which included IITs, NIT, BITS Pilani, AIIMS and many Corporates. Many Schools, Colleges and Corporate from Odisha also participated.  The Inauguration Ceremony with  lighting the lamp.

The preliminary round consisted of 30 mind-bending questions, hosted by quizmaster Major Chandrakanth Nair , one of the known figures in the quizzing circuit. The students actively engaged in the preliminary rounds, proving their mettle by almost answering all correctly. The cutoff for the prelims, thus stood very high at a massive 23 out of 37 points. 8 teams qualified for the finals.

The audiences were kept engaged post prelims by letting them answer all the questions once again, as a part of the discussion. Coupons were distributed by the volunteers for every correct answer by the audience. This included attractive discount vouchers from our sponsors.

The finals consisted of 4 rounds. After a long grueling session of questions and a Tie breaker, 3 teams emerged victorious. The 2nd Runner-up, Venkatesh ‘Venky’ Srinivasan and Suraj Menon from Nexus Consulting bagged a cash price of Rs.30,000/-. The 1st Runner-up of the event Gokul S from Delhi School of Economics and Jyotesh Singh from Princeton University, who bagged a cash price of Rs.50,000/- and the winner of Udghosh 2019  were R Jayakanthan and Samanth Subramanian(TCS and Columbia University respectively), who bagged a cash price of Rs. 75,000/-.

The evening was then followed by a Vote of Thanks from the Coordinator Abhik Biswas. University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof.  Sasmita Samanta; Registrar Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty and Deputy Director Student Services, Dr. Shyam Sundar Behura  graced the occasion with their presence and presented the prizes to all the eight finalist teams.
