Two-Week FDP on AI-Driven Digital Healthcare:  Integrating IoT and Big Data for Smarter Systems

 The Centre of Innovation & Research (COIR) in Medical Technology, KIIT Deemed to be University, in association with the EICT Academy, IIT Roorkee, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, successfully organized a two-week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “AI-Driven Digital Healthcare: Integrating IoT and Big Data for Smarter Systems” from 16 June to 29 June 2026.

The programme was designed to strengthen interdisciplinary knowledge and promote innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data analytics, and next-generation digital healthcare technologies. The FDP brought together experts from academia, industry, and research organizations to explore emerging solutions for smarter, more accessible, and sustainable healthcare systems.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Proshikshya Mukherjee of the School of Electronics Engineering, who introduced the speakers and effectively coordinated the sessions.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Chinmay Chakraborty, Head, COIR-MedTech, and Coordinator of the FDP, highlighted the transformative role of AI and Machine Learning in biomedical engineering, intelligent healthcare systems, remote monitoring, and health-tech innovations. He emphasized the growing need for advanced digital healthcare solutions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and capacity building to address future healthcare challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU, shared his vision for strengthening institutional collaboration and emphasized the importance of integrating AI-driven innovation into academic curricula and research ecosystems to prepare future-ready professionals.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Hemant Ghayvat of Roskilde University, Denmark, who attended as the Chief Guest and delivered an insightful address on the importance of biomedical devices and intelligent healthcare technologies in transforming modern healthcare delivery.

The FDP featured expert lectures, hands-on technical sessions, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-aligned learning modules, enabling participants to gain practical exposure and advanced knowledge applicable to real-world medical technology.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, with more than 25 distinguished speakers and experts from leading national and international institutions and industries and over 300 participants from across India.

The academic experts included Prof. Ashish Ghosh (Director, IIIT Bhubaneswar), Prof. Prasanta K. Panigrahi (Former Director, IISER Kolkata & SOA), Prof. Swagatam Das (ISI Kolkata), Prof. Chandan Chakraborty (NITTTR Kolkata), Prof. Tapan K. Gandhi (IIT Delhi), Prof. Subhajit Roy Chowdhury (IIT Mandi), Prof. Satish Kumar Panda (IIT Bhubaneswar), Prof. Arijita Banerjee (IIT Kharagpur), Prof. Barnali Ghosh (IIT Kharagpur), and Prof. Lokesh Basavarajappa (IIT Indore), among others.

The industry and hands-on experts included Dr. Indranil Hatai (Siemens EDA), Dr. Soumyadeep Bandopadhyay (ABB Corporate Research Center), Dr. Debasish Kundu (Siemens Healthineers), Mr. Soubhik Paul (Philips Research India), Dr. Deep Bera (GE Healthcare), Mr. Nitin Dakre (Siemens Healthineers), Dr. Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay (AIAICPS-I Hub, IIT Kharagpur), and Dr. Saptarshi Goswami (Quantrig, Kolkata).

The programme concluded with a valedictory session held on 29 June 2026, at which Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, attended as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring address emphasizing the importance of affordable healthcare technologies, translational research, and AI-enabled innovation in building equitable healthcare systems.

The successful completion of the FDP reflects KIIT-DU’s continued commitment to academic excellence, industry engagement, and the advancement of innovation-driven healthcare education and research.
