The DG & IG of Police, Odisha, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sharma, IPS,  inaugurated the Magnetic Chowk Town Outpost at KIIT Premises in presence of Sri Y. B. Khurania, IPS, Commissioner of Police, BBSR-Cuttack; Sri Satyabrata Bhoi, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police, BBSR; Sri P.S. Ranpise, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, BBSR-Cuttack; Mrs. Anupama James, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police(HQ), Bhubaneswar-Cuttack; and Prof Achyuta Samanta , Founder, KIIT & KISS.

Expressing his pleasure on the opening of an Outpost at KIIT, the Founder of KIIT and KISS Prof. Achyuta Samanta said that, we have requested to the Government of Odisha two years ago in this regard which has yielded dividend now. In this context, he conveyed his gratitude to the State Government for opening of a Town Outpost.

He remarked the current Town Outpost, which would work initially with 4 staff, i.e. a Sub Inspector, an Assistant Sub-inspector, a Havildar and a Constable would be inadequate to meet the challenge. He urged the DGP to convert it into a full-fledged Town Outpost comprising of at least 20 competent Police Personnel.

Addressing the august gathering Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sharma, IPS, DG & IG of Police, Odisha said, “It is an amazing experience to witness this kind of educational hub in a city like Bhubaneswar. Really Prof. Achyuta Samanta has made it possible by virtue of his sheer resolution, dedication, diligence and vision. I can only compare the KIIT University Campuses with those of the Oxford University in London”.

The DGP further said, “Unless it is properly policed, the area is highly vulnerable. I would expect my police colleagues to pay adequate attention to the law and order problem in this locality. As the daily commuters have grown multi-fold, simply increase in manpower would not fetch solution, but comprehensive Police Management should be prioritized which in fact is the need of the hour.”

On the demand made by Prof. Samanta, he said that we can’t deny his demands from moral grounds. Though the Info-city Police station is reasonably doing well but keeping in view of the growing population, daily commuters and traffic problems, we are giving priority to this town outpost, the DGP clarified.

In his address, Sri Y. B. Khurania, IPS Commissioner of Police, BBSR-Cuttack said, 10 years ago, no one had thought, this part of Bhubaneswar would become an educational hub one day. However, stunning one and all, Dr. Achyuta Samanta has taken BBSR to into the Educational Map of India by creating and properly grooming KIIT and KISS. In fact, the area has been converted into a mini-township and still growing day by day.

He explained that, though normally a Town Outpost is meant for patrolling, it is first such outpost where investigations can be made. He said that patrolling and law and order situation would be improved only when we devote time energy and resources.

At the outset, introducing the Guests the DCP of Bhubaneswar, Sri Sataybrata Bhoi, IPS, said, this Town Outpost is opened to control crime, antisocial elements and relieve the pressure to some extent from the Info-City Police station. At the end, Mrs. Anupama James, IPS, DCP(HQ), Bhubaneswar-Cuttack offered a vote of thanks.
