Subject Expert Engagement (SEE) Series Talk at KSMC
Continuing with the Subject Expert Engagement (SEE) Series, KIIT School of Mass Communication (KSMC) held its second talk under the series on an online platform. Delivering the talk titled “Changing Consumption Pattern and Emerging Opportunities for Mass Media”, the chief speaker Mr. Asish Jha, gave an in-depth analysis about the current online media industry and how journalism students should gear up for the fast growing online media industry.
Mr. Jha talked about how the new media has changed the communication scenario today. He said that the emergence of new media is due to advancement of technology, accessibility to devices and increased internet penetration. He added that the online media has been showing consistent increase since the last five years, while the media share of other mass media channels is steadily decreasing.
Debunking the idea that television, print or radio will be redundant due to new media, Mr. Jha said that the platforms were converging into online media and traditional media is now maintaining the same quality and reach through online media. “There is a very thin line between print, television and web. Print will eventually change to new media because the consumption sources are also changing”, he added. He also emphasized the need to check and confirm original sources for any news by journalists and avoid fake news.
Mr. Jha is currently the Chief Content Strategist at Buddy4Study, a web portal for worldwide scholarship from Noida. At Buddy4Study, he leads a young team of creative writers, researchers, digital enthusiasts and designers. Prior to his current role, he has worked as Web Editor of Careers360, India’s leading career counselling platform. He carries more than 13 years of diversified and rich experience of working in leading positions with Press Trust of India (PTI), Exchange4Media, Pitch Magazine, MBAUniverse.com.
