The Student Volunteers from the NSS Unit, KIIT School of Mechanical Engineering led by Mr. Deepak Singhal, PO went to the Kesura Village of Basuaghai Gram Panchayat on 8th of December, 2019 for the first time after adoption of Kesura Village under the NSS SME.

After observing the village, the NSS Volunteers of SME set the aim to extend the social help to the villagers of the Kesura. The main motive was to make the residents of the village aware of the rights, the Government policies they are entitled to, sanitation campaigns etc. The Volunteers also aimed to target the school and children of the area and work for their holistic development in order to make them as competent and independent citizens in academics, vocational training and other life skills.

The villagers and children were elated to meet the Volunteers and briefed them about the problems faced by them. As a token of a gift, the Volunteers donated them cloth bags. Volunteers went from door to door to distribute bags and requested the villagers to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags. The children were taught the importance of education and a pledge was taken by them to avoid drugs.

“The event was a huge success. The positive response from the people encouraged us to conduct more events like this. We felt that a sense of accountability has been evoked among the people through this event”, remarked the Volunteers.
