Print Publication Exhibition on Durga Puja in KIIT School of Mass Communication

An exhibition on various kinds of print publications based on the theme of ‘Durga Puja’ was inaugurated in KIIT School of Mass Communication Library hall at 12:30 PM on November 6, 2018.

The objective behind the exhibition was to understand and explore different types of publications which came out during mega festival like Durga Puja. Students had collected all the publications during the Puja vacation.

Appreciating the efforts of the students, Prof. Himanshu Shekhar Khatua, CEO, School of Mass Communication, KIIT DU said, “I am delighted at your effort. Actually, this is a lovely exhibition with a handy collection. I hope, you will go a step ahead and publish your own Puja Special Magazine next year. You can also visit different Puja Pandals, take pictures, collect stories and publish them”.

The exhibition’s centre of attraction was “Festivities, down memory lane”, a recent column written by Dr. Achutya Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS in the Telegraph. The link is https://www.telegraphindia.com/states/odisha/festivities-down-memory-lane/cid/1673879.

“Since, I am teaching print journalism, I wanted students to be exposed to the idea of how a single occasion gives  rise to different types of publication. The visitors can look at the different genres, types of publications, various writing styles, stories, photographs, page layouts, hard news and features among others,” said Ruby Nanda, Faculty Associate, School of Mass Communication.

The future journalists have collected publication in five languages namely, English, Odia, Hindi, Bengali and Dimasa. On display there are various magazines, publications, advertisements, newspapers, brochures, flyers and tabloid etc.

The exhibition, a teamwork exercise, which was a learning experience for students. “It was a great experience for me from collecting, arranging and setting up print publication exhibition. Throughout this journey we came to know how to work together,” said Agniva Bhowmick, 1stsemester student of IMCJ.

Other students also felt that it was a good learning for them.”Prior to this, we didn’t notice that there were many genres of publications only on Dussehra. It was an exposure to the print world”, said Abhilipsa Mohanty, a 3rdsemester student of IMCJ.  On the same line, Mousree Das, another student of 3rd semester of IMCJ cited that this print publication exhibition was their small effort to make the next generation aware of print media and it’s crucial role.

“I was amazed with the use of photographs in various colors and postures,” said Nitali Johori, a 3rd semester student of IMCJ. Meanwhile, Soumi Banerjee, a 1st semester student of IMCJ expressed that through this exhibition they got to know how beautifully and differently each state celebrates puja and how media has captured the moments.

In fact, the exhibition will remain open to one and all till November 8, 2018.
