‘Prayash’ – An Initiative to Provide Skill Training to Unemployed Tribal Youths of Kandhamal District

The Government of Odisha in ST & SC Development Department and Odisha Tribal Development Society (OTDS) have given a target to provide training to 120 unemployed tribal youths of Kandhamal District to KIIT Deemed to be University.

Candidates will be trained under Solar PV Installer- Electrical. Mobilization process has already started in the district of Kandhamal. Minimum qualification of these candidates is ITI/Diploma passed. Training will be imparted by the competent trainers working in different Schools of KIIT-DUThe objective of the training is to provide opportunities of self/wage employment to the trainees. It also aims to reorient them through short duration training programmes to enable them to adjust to the new environment and adopt new avocations. It should be desirable to reorient such trainees so that they may engage themselves in income generating activities. Counseling is the basic prerequisite of the training programme. They need psychological counseling to face the new challenges both for themselves and for the members of their family who may continue to depend upon them. The trainees will be helped to acquire necessary skills, expertise and orientation to start new avocations and re-enter the productive process. These training programmes will be of short duration according to the trade or activity. Initial counseling has been done in Phulbani in presence of the PA ITDA, Phulbani & Livelihood Expert, ITDA Phulbani. Further counseling will be done by the officials of KIIT-DU.

Dr Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble M.P., Kandhamal & Founder, KIIT & KISS has always been emphasizing to provide skill development training to unemployed tribal youths, giving utmost priority to the most under developed district, Kandhamal. He is always encouraging youths to get opportunity for receiving quality training and acquaint themselves with the working culture of KIIT Group of Institutions. He also told the trainees to visit different campuses of the KIIT Group of Institutions and utilize libraries, classrooms, labs, etc. to learn more and more things about the training programme. This training programme is residential in nature. Separate accommodation has been provided for the boys and girls. After counseling and freezing of the batch, classroom training will start.
