 – ‘Resurrecting the Green Galore’

As part of the Public Communication Campaign course, a group of third-semester students of Integrated Master of Communication and Journalism (IMCJ) programme of School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University launched a Public Communication Campaign titled ‘Resurrecting the Green Galore’ on virtual platform on 2nd September 2021.

Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy, Indian environmental activist & Founder of Environmental Foundation of India (EFI) launched the students’ campaign in the presence of Dr. Bidu Bhusan Dash, Course Coordinator, KSMC and Dr. Anurag Sahu, Assistant Professor and Course Instructor of Public Communication Campaign. Mr. Krishnamurthy, who started the campaign of cleaning lakes across India, is the recipient of prestigious accolades like Jane Goodall Institute Global Youth Leadership (2010); Google Alumni Impact (2011); and Rolex Awards for Enterprise (2012).

Underscoring the importance of nature in human life, Mr. Krishnamurthy made the participants realize the amount of involvement of plastic in daily life. The most interesting part of his talk was the explanation of the concept ‘Humanisation of Nature and Naturalisation of Human’. He then added, “For everything, there is an alternative to a chemical product that has been dumped on us today”. He asked everyone to be pioneers when it comes to how India spoke about the environment and conservation. At the end of his talk, he congratulated the team for launching this campaign and showed his interest to work with every single one of them.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dash gave some insights for the smooth running of the campaign. He extended gratitude to Mr Krishnamurthy for joining the launching ceremony of the campaign. He also congratulated the team members and wished them good luck for the campaign.

Dr. Anurag Sahu, Assistant Professor, KSMC explained the complexity of the environment issues related to waste management. Communication can be used as a befitting tool to create awareness on this issue, he added. A brief introduction of the campaign was provided by Ms. Soumya Parija, campaign team leader & a 3rd semester student of IMCJ. “The main objective of the campaign is to spread awareness to ensure the protection of the environment through effective waste management strategies”, she said.

Ms Ankita Das, a student member of the campaign project, talked about the future course of communication strategy and presented posters made by the team members. She also briefed about the various social media handles on which the campaign would be promoted.

Ms. Sushree Nayak, a student member of the campaign team, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Mohammed Farhan was the student moderator of the event. The campaign launching ceremony was attended by students and faculty members of KSMC and from other colleges and universities.
