KSEC Organizes Special Session on Union Budget 2024-25

KIIT School of Economics & Commerce (KSEC) held a special session titled “Union Budget 2024-25: Beyond the Obvious” on July 30, 2024. The session featured insights from Dr. Amerendra Das, Associate Professor at NISER, Bhubaneswar, and Ms. Sujata Praharaj, Assistant Controller of Accounts, Finance Department, Govt. of Odisha. Participants included Professor Keshab Das, Dean of KSEC, Professor Sukant C. Swain, Dean-Research at KSEC, along with faculty members and students.

Ms. Praharaj highlighted specific aspects of the Union Budget 2024-25 aimed at strengthening the foundational pillars of Viksit Bharat, beginning with a brief history of budget processes in India. Dr. Das provided a broader context, critically analyzing key budget allocations and the neglect of certain areas, particularly those related to the social sector.

The session included a detailed discussion, focusing on the philosophy behind the annual budget exercise, the specific allocations in the Union Budget 2024-25, and their implications for the Indian economy. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tulasi Malini Maharana, Assistant Professor of Economics at KSEC. Dr. Sarita Kumari Singh, Assistant Professor of Commerce, also addressed the audience. The interactive session offered valuable insights, clarified doubts, and fostered a deeper understanding of the budget’s complexities.

In another development, Professor Keshab Das, as a Panelist, presented on “Frontiers in Social Science Research: Data and Beyond” at the Workshop on ‘Uses of Census Data in Social Science Research’ organized by the Census Data Research Workstation and Department of Economics of the Rama Devi Women’s University (RDWU) and held at the RDWU, Bhubaneswar, July 25, 2024.
