KINS Organizes e-Seminar on ‘Hematological Disorder’

Hematological disorders are diseases which primarily affect the blood (blood cells including RBCs, WBCs, Platelets) and blood forming organs like bone marrow, lymph nodes and spleen. Starting from most common anemia to complex leukemia, they have afflicted children as well as adults causing morbidity and mortality. Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) organized a two-day e-seminar from 19th – 20th June 2021 through a virtual platform on Hematological Disorder.

On the first day, Professor Mrs. Amarita Lenka, Principal CON, KINS greeted and welcomed the speaker of the day as well as all the participants to the e-seminar. Mrs. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS took the 1st session on ‘Overview on Blood Dyscrasias’ where she  elaborated in depth about classification of blood cells and disorders associated with it along with their sign and symptoms, management and role of nurse in caring for blood dyscrasias patients.

The second session was taken by Dr. Palash Das, Associate Professor, KIMS on ‘Leukemia’. She elucidated on the causes, classification, signs and symptoms to look for and the diagnostic tests to diagnose the disease and the treatment modalities. It was a very informative and interesting session for all the students as well as the faculties.

The last session was conducted by Ms. Pragyan Paramita Bhoi, M.Sc.2nd year student on the topic, Thalassemia. She covered each aspect related to the disease including the etiology, pathophysiology, major and minor thalassemia, clinical manifestation and management comprehensively. Around 150 participants including M.Sc. 1st and 2nd year students, B.Sc. 3nd year students along with all the faculties attended the seminar.
