KIIT School of Mass Communication Observes National Press Day

KIIT School of Mass Communication(KSMC) observed National Press Day-2022 on 16th November 2022. On this occasion, KSMC organized quiz and debate competitions and arranged a talk on Health Journalism. Dr. Harish Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Critical Care Unit, KIMS graced the occasion as the chief guest of the event.

The event started with the lighting of the lamp by Dr. Chowdhury, Dr Rajeev Kumar Panda, Dr Bidu Bhusan Dash and  other faculty members. The Course Coordinator of KSMC Dr. Panda introduced the guest and briefed about the importance of the day including the need of evidence based health journalism. Dr. Chowdhury presented a talk on importance and opportunities in Health Journalism. He briefed out the role and responsibilities of media in creating awareness and disseminating credible information.

Dr. Anurag Sahu, Event Coordinator, KSMC spoke on the background of the occasion and  suggested the budding journalists to uphold the ethical guidelines. On this occasion, KSMC organized preliminary and final rounds of quiz competition on themes like Newspaper, Media history and Bollywood. After the quiz, a debate competition was also organized on “Social Media; a boon or bane?”

The quiz competition was coordinated by Pratham Pulak Tripathy, Dishari Banerjee, Pranil Samanta & Debjani Acharya, students of MCJ 1st Year. The 3rd Semester BCJ and 1st Semester MCJ were declared as the winner and runner up of the quiz competition respectively. Baisakhi Mishra, 5th Sem BCJ; Sumit Satish Deshpende, 1st Semester BCJ; and Kathakali Dutta, 5th Semester BCJ were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd  in the debate competition respectively. The debate competition was judged by Ms Ruby Nanda, Mr Souptik Garai and Dr Aniruddha Jena.

At the end of the session, prizes and certificates were distributed and a vote of thanks was given by Kathakali. Dr. Sahu conveyed his words of acknowledgement to the chief guest Dr. Chowdhury for sparing his valuable time and valuable input to the students. The event was moderated and coordinated by Pushpendrika Som, student of 5th Semester. Students and faculty members of the school were present throughout the event.
