KIIT School of Mass Communication celebrates National Press Day

Encouraging future journalists to take pride in an independent and responsible press in India, School of Mass Communication today celebrated National Press Day by holding various competitions among journalism students.

In fact, National Press Day is celebrated every year on 16th November in India. The Press Council of India started functioning on this day. The day marks the presence of an independent and responsible press in India. This day symbolizes freedom of the press and its responsibilities towards the society.

Students of SMC enthusiastically participated in debates like “social media Vs Traditional media” and “Commercialization of media vs. good journalism”. They created posters on Press Freedom.

The students participated in the debates, extempore, and poster making competition. Faculty members Course coordinator Dr. B B Dash; Assistant Professor, Dr. Anurag Sahu; Assistant Professor, Ms. Ruby Nanda; Assistant Professor and Faculty Associate Mr. Souptik Garai coordinated the event.

The 5th and 1st Semester students are respectively the winner and runner of the debate competition. In the extempore competition, Ms. Urvy Yaduvanshi, Ms Nitali Johri and Mr. Ustav Banarjee won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively. And the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize of Poster designing competition won by Ms. Sowmrita Nayak, Ms. Urvy Yaduvanshi, Ms. Blessi Pradhan & Ms.Doublin Pradhan respectively.
