An online Tech Talk on “Application of High Voltage for Air Pollution Control” was organized by the School of Electrical Engineering (SOEE), KIIT Deemed to be University on 12th August 2020. The talk was a joint activity of KIIT, IEEE Consumer Electronics and IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Chapters, Bhubaneswar.

In his talk, Prof. Snakarsan Mohapatro, School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar outlined different causes of air pollution and its adverse effects on human beings. He described high voltage based non-thermal plasma treatment for diesel exhaustion-cum-pollution control. He elaborated on how high voltage can be generated from a 12 V battery that would be the only source of power in a vehicle so that the non-thermal plasma treatment can be facilitated. Prof. Mohapatro also responded to queries raised by the research scholars.

Earlier, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, SoEE welcomed and thanked Prof. Mohapatro for his valuable time for the Tech Talk. He suggested to have a joint research collaboration of IIT Bhubaneswar and KIIT-DU to provide research scholars an opportunity to contribute to the field.

All participants appreciated the speaker’s assessment of the future scope of the research work. The program was coordinated by Dr. Srikanth Allamsetty, FIC, Tech Talk. During the talk, all faculty members, IEEE student members and Research Scholars of the School were present.
