KIIT R&D Cell Organises Interactive Session with Research Scholars

The KIIT-DU R&D Cell organised the 2nd edition of “Chai Pe Charcha – Diwali Edition,” an interactive forum that engaged full-time Ph.D. scholars in meaningful discussions on research progress, collaboration, and innovation. The session aimed to strengthen scholarly interaction, encourage idea exchange, and foster a vibrant research ecosystem at KIIT.

The session featured an insightful talk by Prof. Gopal C. Kundu, Director (R&D), KIIT-DU, who emphasized the importance of nurturing a vibrant research culture and promoting innovation across disciplines. Prof. Kundu highlighted that the Ph.D. programme at KIIT is not merely a job-oriented process but a platform to integrate diverse disciplines and expand research horizons. He encouraged scholars to engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research by utilizing institutional facilities such as the Central Research Facility (CRF)Innovation Centre, and Technology Business Incubator (TBI).

Emphasizing KIIT’s strong research ecosystem, Prof. Kundu noted that initiatives like organising multiple national and international conferences — including the upcoming 8th International Conference on Translational Research (ICTR) scheduled for December 2025 — will significantly strengthen the university’s ranking and global research reputation. These facilities, he said, inspire scholars to innovate, publish, and transform ideas into meaningful outcomes.

A key focus of the session was the evolving role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) in academic research. Prof. Kundu discussed the use of AI tools for manuscript preparation, data generation, and editing, while underscoring the ethical responsibility of distinguishing between AI-edited and AI-generated content. He urged scholars to explore how AI can enhance research efficiency without compromising integrity. Drawing from his past research experience abroad, he shared the concept of Walking through the Hallway with Your Colleagues/Researchers with a Cup of Coffee to Generate New Ideas — a globally practiced tradition that encourages informal interactions among scholars and faculty members, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Chandra Satapathy, Director of Doctoral Research & Publications, in his address, mentioned that this tradition of informal interactions — where minds meet freely and hearts connect — has long been envisioned by Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT, KISS & KIMS. He noted that the Founder has always believed that education without emotion is incomplete, and this evening beautifully reflected that philosophy — where scholars are not just researchers but members of a large, loving KIIT family. He also extended Diwali greetings to all.

Prof. (Dr.) Hrudaya Kumar Tripathy, Dean (Research), delivered an enlightening session on “From Idea to Publication: Writing Research Articles with AI,” offering valuable insights to Ph.D. scholars. Adding a touch of cultural flair to the evening, a few research scholars presented enchanting dance and musical performances that beautifully blended talent and enthusiasm, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained. The event was coordinated by Dr. Amlana Panda, Assistant Registrar (R&D).
