KIIT IQAC Organizes Virtual Workshop on Multidisciplinary Research Project Area
KIIT Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, Bhubaneswar and IEEE Consumers Technology Society, Bhubaneswar, organized an online workshop on Multi-disciplinary Research Project Area across all Schools of KIIT-DU on 6th February 2021. A team of eminent experts from inside and outside of KIIT-DU delivered talks covering areas and opportunities of interdisciplinary research in the University.
At the outset, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, Quality Assurance, KIIT extended a warm welcome to the resource persons of the workshop and highlighted the multi disciplinary research credentials of the University. Participating in the discussion, Prof Gopal Kundu, Director (R&D) emphasized on the vast opportunity of interdisciplinary research in KIIT and motivated all the Quality coordinators and faculty members to take up multidisciplinary research.
Mr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Course Control Officer, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Secunderabad explained the importance and requirement of knowledge and information available in the standards published by various international bodies like BIS, BS, ASTM, EN, etc. before taking up any research proposal. He also discussed about the challenges and opportunities for research and development for e-vehicles for India and western developed countries.
During panel discussion, Prof. Ratikant Tripathy, KIMS shared his thoughts on multidisciplinary research to address the issues of the Medical field. Prof. Tripathy underlined the scope of interdisciplinary research for development of cost effective efficient medical devices, apps for helping the patients. Prof. Srinivas Pattnaik, Dean, School of Biotechnology gave a broad picture of the research capability of the School for interdisciplinary research specifically related to ‘Engineering Products in HealthCare Industry’.
Prof. Ashok Sar, School of Management emphasized the requirement of interdisciplinary research on “nutrition” with a greater vision of creating healthy India. Prof Suresh Satpathy, Dean, Research, School of Computer Engineering pointed out the various possible areas of interdisciplinary research with the School such as IOT, AI, etc. Prof Sanjib Moulik, Dean, School of Civil Engineering briefed about the readiness of the faculty members to carry out interdisciplinary research on infrastructure. Prof. Arindam Deb, Dy Director, Accreditation stressed upon the outcome based teaching in the classroom which will help to create an ambience of research among the students in a focused way.
Prof Bijay Kumar Rout, Professor, BITS Pilani, shared a practical approach to move forward for interdisciplinary research. He impressed upon the faculty members to “BREAK THE BARRIER” of individual research fields in order to excel in interdisciplinary research. Prof Rout inspired to carry out research in the area of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and application of IOT, machine learning, waste management for realization of smart city.
Finally, Prof. Dipti Ranjan Biswal, Faculty Coordinator, QA Cell, School of Civil Engineering extended the words of thanks to all the speakers, and faculty participants of the workshop. During the Q&A session, the speaker took the queries from the participants.
