KIIT Gets Institution Of Eminence (IoE) Tag from UGC
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has issued Letter of Intent (LoI) for ‘Institution of Eminence’ (IoE) tag to KIIT Deemed to be University, informed Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS at a press meet in Bhubaneswar on September 7, 2019.
Dr. Samanta said that Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had taken initiative to develop some prominent Indian higher education institutions into world-class institutes. With a view to this, Govt. of India constituted an Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) under the chairmanship of N. Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and five other members.
Many reputed institutions of India had applied and took part in the process for the IoE status. These institutions made a presentation in New Delhi about their institutes. The Expert Committee selected 10 public and 10 private institutions based on their presentation and recommended to the University Grants Commission (UGC). In this process, only 3 public and 3 private institutes were conferred IoE in the first phase. Later, it was examined by the UGC and the Expert Committee and finally, 5 institutes each from public and private sectors were selected for the ‘Institute of Eminence’ tag.
Among these five selected private institutes, KIIT Deemed to be University is the only institution from Odisha to get the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status.
The HRD Ministry has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to KIIT on August 2, 2019. Importantly, KIIT Deemed to be University is the youngest University of India to get this prestigious tag.
KIIT is just 22 years old as an institution for professional education and 15 years old as a University. It was founded in 1992-93 as a vocational training centre from rented premises with a seed capital of only Rs. 5000. But, despite being a very young university, it has secured an impressive position in various global university rankings only due to the blessings of God.
KIIT has been giving importance to quality education, research, and development since its inception. As a result, it became possible for KIIT to achieve this success. It is a matter of pride not only for students, staff, faculties, and guardians of KIIT Deemed to be University but also for Odisha,Dr. Samanta said.
Dr. Samanta thanked and expressed his gratitude to Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for his vision to promote education and his blessings to KIIT.
“KIIT has been getting blessings and support of Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha since 1997. It has got this rare achievement due to his blessings and support; for which KIIT family will always be obliged to him”, he stated.
He also thanked Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Minister, HRD, Govt. of India.
