Japanese Film Festival Inaugurated at KIIT

The Japanese Film Festival ‘Japan Talkies’ commenced at the KIIT premises on 22nd August, 2025. This marks the second occasion that this festival is being hosted at KIIT University. The film festival has been inaugurated and organized by KIIT in partnership with the Japan Foundation, the Federation of Film Societies of India, and the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata. The festival, which will run until the 24th August, was inaugurated  on 22nd August, 2025 in the presence of Mr. Ishikawa Yoshihisa, the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata; Himanshu Acharya, Head of Mitsubishi Corporation India, Kolkata Branch; Prof. Sharanjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KIIT DU; Prof. Debashish Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chancellor of KISS DU; Debraj Pradhan, Director General of IRO, KIIT; and Mr. Himanshu Khatua, Director General of the School of Film and Mass Media Communications.

During the event, Mr. Ishikawa Yoshihisa remarked that the Japanese Film Festival, taking place at KIIT for the second time, will undoubtedly enhance the cultural collaboration between India and Japan. He expressed his hope that this partnership will persist in the future. In this regard, he extended his gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, for his support in advancing the Japanese Film Festival. At the inaugural ceremony today, the film ‘Father of the Milky Way Railroad’ was presented. Tomorrow, ‘Princess Arete’ and ‘Lady Kaga’ will be showcased, while ‘Ride Your Wave’ and ‘The Zen Diary’ are scheduled for screening on the 24th August.
