The International Relations Office (IRO) of KIIT Deemed to be University (KIIT-DU) organized a heritage walk to the Chausath Yogini Temple in Hirapur, Odisha, on 19th October 2024, with first-year international students of KIIT-DU, accompanied by officials from the International Relations Office. Built during the 9th century CE, the Chausath Yogini Temple is located about 20 km from Bhubaneswar. The architecture of the temple celebrates the triumph of feminine cosmic power (Shakti), represented by Durga and Mahakali, over evil. The students were intrigued by the temple’s unique roofless, circular design, with its stone walls adorned by sculptures of 64 ‘yoginis’—demigoddess avatars of Goddess Durga. Mr. Bijaya Panda, Manager, IRO, narrated the stories behind the sculptures, with the students appreciating the mystic charm of the temple.
