Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse and Prevention held at KIIT
KIIT NSS Bureau and NSS Regional Directorate, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence organized an awareness programme on the theme “Drug Abuse and Prevention” on 28th January, 2020.
The Inaugural Session was graced by Dr. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT Deemed to be University; Ms. Prerana Kumari, Project Manager NISD; Ms. Sarita Patel, Regional Director of NSS; Dr. Surekha Sundari Swain; Deputy Secretary to Government of Odisha; Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Student Counselling, KIIT-DU; Dr. Kajal Parashar, Programme Coordinator, KIIT NSS Bureau and Dr. P. Rout Programme Officer, NSS wing of KIIT School of Biotechnology.
In her welcome speech, Dr. Kajal Parashar emphasized the need of organizing such type of programmes on social relevant issues. Ms. Prerana Kumari, Project Manager highlighted the role of youth in building the Nation. If youth of the Nation fall prey to bad practices which is harmful to one’s own health, the development of a model Nation cannot be imagined, she remarked.
Ms. Kumari enlightened the students about the negative impacts of drug abuse and the ways of overcoming from this bad habits. She also explained how the students can prevent friends from consuming drugs to build a healthy Nation. Ms. Sarita Patel elucidated the role of Institutes and Parents to monitor students so that they don’t get involved in bad habits.
Dr. Surekha Sundari Swain remarked that Institutes and Government can work jointly so that the teenager students involved in such practices can be refrained and awareness can be generated among the students.
Dr. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty informed the audience regarding various awareness drives carried out by KIIT DU and said a separate cell is being monitored on student activities. Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini in her speech said that we can prevent the students from involving in bad activities through proper counselling .
The resource persons of the occasion Mr. Imran Ali, Founder Member, NMYS interacted with the students and discussed about the consequences of drug abuse. He also placed some important case studies to the students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. P. Rout .
