KIIT School of Fashion Technology Organizes Online FDP-2021
Faculty Development Programme-2021 was inaugurated at KIIT School of Fashion Technology (KSOFT) by Prof. Bauri Raula, Course Coordinator of the School on 21st June 2021. The five-day online FDP, divided into eight sessions, aims to improve the teaching and research skills of the participants. Eminent speakers from academia and industry will facilitate knowledge to the registered participants from different academic institutions across the nation.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Dr. Sudha Dhingra, Assistant Dean, NIFT, New Delhi explored the need and importance of professionalism in design education with possibilities of sustainability through ethical practice in design thinking and innovation for green and eco fashion through the concept of “recycle, reuse, reduce” for social awareness. In her talk titled, “Design Sustainability in Fashion and Textile, she stressed that only pedagogical inputs can motivate and inspire design professionals to practice the same in industry.
Dr. Binaya Bhusan Jena, Former Director, NIFT Bhubaneswar, in his talk on “Future of Sustainability Fashion: Opportunity for Handloom Sector”, explained about natural dyes from various extract sources like trees, plants, roots, barks, flowers, leaves, peals, etc. for eco-friendly and sustainable fibre dyeing used for apparel and textile fabrics. These were used by different community groups in the handloom sector before the entry of mechanical looms in India. The session started with the welcome note by Prof. Bauri Raula and was moderated by Ms. B. Mohapatra. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. V. Sethi.
Delivering a talk on the second day of the FDP, Mr. Manigandan Gunasekaran, GM-Processing, Shahi Exports Ltd., Bangalore explained sustainable practices in bio-synthetic fibres and fabric processing. His talk was titled “Sustainable Practice in Knit Fabric Processing for Green Fashion”. He also answered questions posed by the participants. The session started with the welcome note by Prof. Bauri Raula and was moderated by Prof. A. Kumar. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. P. S. Bal.
Faculty members of the School, along with professionals from different institutions, joined the informative sessions on both the days.
