Workshop on “Changing Facets of Contract Laws”

A workshop on the ‘Changing Facets of Contract Laws’ was organized by the KIIT Law School (KLS) on January 25, 2022. The one-day workshop was organized as a part of the extension study for the students of Law of Contract at KLS. It was designed to unfold the changing dimensions of contract laws and the mode of catering to the needs of the present legal system in India.

The first session of the workshop was on “Infrastructure Contracts and its Way Forward”. Mr. Rohith Kamath, Partner, Rex Law Chambers, Bangalore discussed the case studies of infrastructure contracts which have recently been in limelight in India and the legal regulations of the same which the courts are appreciating through interpretation of the legislative framework for the time being at place. He emphasized on the new jurisprudence in this field at present.

The second session on “Importance of Contract Law in Arbitration” was taken by Mr. Gaurav Rai, Advocate and Senior Associate, Legafin Law Associates, New Delhi. His focus was on the Arbitration clauses that are embedded in the Contracts and how the laws of contract play in negotiating matters in dispute. He also suggested students pay specific attention to reading cases on areas of interest to know and understand the laws better.

The third and last session of the workshop was on “Prenuptial Contracts in India”. Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law, National Law School of India University, Bangalore conducted the session. Though a new practice in India, the speaker brought clarity on the application of contract laws to the agreements of such kind and its future in Indian legal order.

The coordinating committee of the workshop thanked Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS; Prof. Sasmita Samanta, VC, KIIT-DU; Prof. (Dr.) Bhabani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS; Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar for their support and guidance. The workshop was attended by students and faculty members of the School and was coordinated by Dr. Bishwa Kallyan Dash and Dr. Shreya Chaterjee from KLS.
