Orientation program for Research using animal models organized by Department of Pharmacology

An orientation program on “Research using animal models” was organized in the Department of Pharmacology on 9th January, 2020. It was attended by participants from the Dept. of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Ophthalmology, Molecular  Biology and Paediatrics. Dr. Harish Chandra Choudhury was the moderator of the event.

The meeting started with a welcome address by Prof. and HOD, Dr. Suresh Chandra Pradhan. He also gave a brief introduction about toxicity studies and present status of animal studies in research. This was followed by the presentation on “Orientation program for research on experimental animal” by Dr. Vartika Srivastava which included the importance of preclinical studies, IAEC and animal house, KIMS and relevant animal models.

Dr. Manas Ranjan Mishra gave a lecture on various animal models for drugs acting on the CNS. This was followed by the tour of animal house, KIMS and a visit to the PG research lab for hands on training on few animal models. A 20 minutes discussion with participants about the queries and tentative proposals with the faculties of the Dept. of Pharmacology was done, followed by the tour.

The program ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Chaitali Pattanayak with an  appeal to the participants to submit proposals for the forthcoming IAEC meeting.
