KINS Organises Disaster Management Workshop

The second year M.Sc. Nursing students from Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent under KIIT-DU, organised a comprehensive Disaster Nursing Management Workshop to equip nursing professionals with crucial skills and knowledge in disaster management.

The workshop started with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Niyati Das, Principal, KINS as she emphasised the crucial role of nursing professionals in disaster preparedness and management. Guest speaker Sukant Sethi, Director Fire Services KIIT-KISS addressed the gathering with his expertise in disaster preparedness.

The workshop comprised of group activities focusing on the preparedness and management of cyclone, earthquake, industrial accidents and hazards and fire. Participants engaged in role plays, hands-on training, and mock drills to simulate real-life disaster scenarios.

The cyclone preparedness group showcased evacuation techniques, shelter management, and first aid specific to cyclones. The earthquake management group practiced search and rescue operations, triage, and medical care for victims. The industrial safety workshop highlighted hazard identification, PPE usage, and emergency protocols in industrial settings. The session involving fire preparedness covered fire extinguisher usage, evacuation procedures, and burn wound management.

Throughout the workshops, the participants were actively engaged in hands-on demonstrations, simulations and brainstorming activities. This event helped them gain knowledge and skills about disaster preparedness and management.

The program concluded on a high note with a vote of thanks by Associate Prof. Soumya Sonalika of KINS. The Disaster Management Workshop left a lasting impact on nursing professionals, equipping them to manage disasters in their roles effectively. The event’s collaborative and interactive approach fostered a proactive attitude towards disaster response and management.
