Workshop on National Science Day

On the occasion of National Science Day i.e. 28th February 2026, the Google Developer Group (GDG) On-Campus KIIT organized “Breaking an LLM” at KIIT Deemed to be University. The event witnessed an overwhelming response with 1200+ registrations, including around 60 participants from outside the university. More than 500 attendees actively participated, making it one of the largest and most engaging GDG events on campus.

Dr. Raghunath Dey, School of Computer Engineering, welcomed the guests and participants, highlighting the record-breaking registrations and reflecting on GDG KIIT’s major achievements over the past year, while expressing gratitude to the supporting dignitaries. Mr. Sourav Kumar Giri emphasized the growing significance of AI education in academics.

The technical sessions explored the inner workings of Large Language Models, including live demonstrations of model reasoning, token-level analysis, GPT-2 interventions, and hallucination detection. The advanced segment introduced activation steering techniques, demonstrating how internal neural pathways can be guided beyond simple prompting to influence model behavior without retraining. The program concluded with insights into the future of mechanistic interpretability, AI safety research directions, and an interactive Q&A session.

Organized on National Science Day, the event celebrated scientific curiosity and innovation through knowledge sharing, hands-on learning, and meaningful discussions on emerging AI technologies. The enthusiastic participation reflected the growing interest in artificial intelligence and technological development within the KIIT campus community.
