On 23rd December, 2019 a Technical Talk on “An Integrated Approach to Understanding the Behavior of Coarse- and Fine-Grained Soils: Findings from Field Instrumentation, Advanced Laboratory Characterization, and Numerical Modeling” was organized by the School of Civil Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University under ICE Student Chapter.

The program started with a welcome address by Prof. K.P. Samal, Associate Professor SCE and faculty In-charge of KSCE followed by felicitation of Esteemed Guest Speaker Dr. (Deb) Mishra from Oklahoma State University, USA, by Associate Dean SCE Prof. S. Moullick.  A brief introduction about the Guest was given by Prof B. Beria, SCE.

In his technical talk, he explained the behavior of granular material through field instrumentation, advanced laboratory characterization and numerical modeling. He emphasized that, each of the above components plays an important role in predicting the behavior of the material and these should be combined to get the whole picture. He discussed all these components from his research experiences elaborately.

Prior to his talk, he visited KISS. He lauded profusely to the Hon’ble Founder of KIIT & KISS Prof. Achyuta Samanta for creating such colossal infrastructure and facilities. Then  a memento was presented to the Honorable Guest  by Director SCE Prof. (Dr.) B.G. Mohapatra as a token of love. The event was finally concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. D.K.
