KINS organised a National Seminar

Department of Community Health Nursing and Mental Health Nursing of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University organised a National Seminar on “New Horizons in Community Mental Health Practice” at KIMS Auditorium, Campus-5 on 6th December, 2019.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr. Sarada Prasanna Swain, Director of Cuttack based Mental Health Institute said it needs massive Public Awareness Drive to prevent Mental Health related ailments which have rapidly been spreading across the society. The Nurses have greater role to play in preventing these diseases. If the Nurses get proper training for the purpose, then the patients would be benefited a lot.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Sushil Kumar Kar, Director of Nursing, Government of Odisha highlighted  various opportunities for Nursing Students in the realm of treatment of mentally ailing patients. He remarked that the role of Nurses are more significant than that of Doctors as far as treatment of mentally ill persons are concerned.

In this Seminar, Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University; Major General Dr. P.K. Pattanik, Principal of KIMS and Sri Panchanan Parida, Management Representative  discussed the role of Nurses in resolving various problems faced by mentally sick persons and different treatment opportunities available for them. While, Prof. (Ms.) Amarita Lenka, Principal of KINS extended the Welcome Address, the Vice Principal Prof. Niyati Das  proposed vote of thanks.

Students of 12 colleges of Odisha along with many lecturers and resource persons participated in this Seminar. In fact, the Seminar was organised mainly to provide proper counselling and service to mentally sick people through the Rehabilitation Centres established at different places.
