Integrated Student Seminar on Diabetes Mellitus Organized by Academic Society, KIMS
The Academic Society, KIMS organized an integrated student seminar on “Diabetes Mellitus” on 13th November 2021. Prof. (Dr.) C.B.K Mohanty, Pro Vice Chancellor, KIMS; Maj. Gen. Dr. P.K. Patnaik, DG, School of Medicine; Brig. (Dr.) Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Principal, KIMS; Dr. Subhransu Patro, Vice Principal, KIMS; Col. Dr. Lalita Kumari Patnaik, I/C PG Cell graced the occasion. The HODs of different departments were also present to encourage the students.
Keeping in mind the WHO theme – “Access to All” for Diabetes Day 2021 and the dream of becoming able doctors who can make a change in the healthcare scape of the country, the Academic Society prepared an integrated student seminar on Diabetes. The faculty coordinator for the event was Dr. Ratikanta Tripathy, Assoc. Prof. Pharmacology and Dr. Nirmal K. Mohakud, Prof. Pediatrics.
The student seminar aimed to integrate topics related to Diabetes across the four years of the MBBS curriculum. The event started with an introduction talk by the Principal, KIMS. Tanvi Gupta (1st year, MBBS) spoke on the ‘Anatomy of the pancreas and Glucose Homeaostasis’. She was followed by her classmate, Arya Bhasin, who spoke on ‘Oral Glucose Tolerance Test and Glycemic Control’. They were followed by Rigi Udbhavi (2nd year MBBS), who presented on ‘Symptoms and Complications of Diabetes Mellitus’. The seminar was concluded by Garima Saluja and Rini Basu (2nd year MBBS), who addressed the gathering about ‘Drug Therapy and Management of DM’. The performance of all the student speakers was appreciated by the dignitaries present. The event was organized both in offline mode (50 participants) and on zoom platform (170 participants).
The student seminar was followed by a quiz on Diabetes, which received enthusiastic participation from students of all batches.
