18th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Intelligent Technology 2022 at KIIT

118

The 18th edition of International Conference on Distributed Computing and Intelligent Technology 2022 was conducted at School of Computer Engineering, KIIT-DU in Virtual Mode from 19th – 23rd January 2022. Since 2004, the ICDCIT conference series has been a global platform for Computer Science researchers to exchange research results and ideas on the foundations and applications of Distributed Computing and Internet Technology. The conference series is the brainchild of Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and he has been mentoring it meticulously since its inception.

The rapid rise and adoption of Artificial Intelligence in all domains of Science and Engineering have prompted the introduction of “Intelligent Technology” in the scope of the conference in this edition. Undoubtedly, these technologies are critical to individuals and organizations who are engaged in the design, development, and deployment of large-scale systems incorporating AI-based components and subsystems.

The conference was inaugurated on 20th January 2022 by Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Biswajit Sahoo, Director, KIIT School of Computer Engineering; Prof. (Dr.) J. R. Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU; Dr. Swarup Mohalik, General Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022 & Research Scientist, Ericsson, Bangalore; Dr. Subhasis Dash, Organizing Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022; and Prof. (Dr.) Sathya Peri, IIT Hyderabad, Program Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022.

Keynote addresses in the Distributed Computing track were delivered by Prof. Hagit Attiya, Technion, Israel on “Preserving Hyper Properties when Using Concurrent Objects”; Prof. Philippas Tsigas, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden on “Convergence, Consistency, and Adaptiveness in Parallel Stochastic Gradient Descent” and Prof. Roger Wattenhofer, ETH Zurich, Switzerland on “Graph Neural Networks”.

Similarly, keynote addresses in the Intelligent Technology track were delivered by Prof. Matthew E. Taylor, University of Alberta, Canada on “Reinforcement Learning and Human-Agent Teaming: Challenges and Opportunities”; Prof. Michael Cashmore, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow on “Exploring the Space of Solutions in Explainable AI Planning (XAIP)”; and Prof. U. Deva Priyakumar, IIIT Hyderabad on “Role of AI in the COVID19 Pandemic”.

The 12th Industry Symposium and 11th Project Innovation Contest were held as satellite events during the five-day conference. The Industry Symposium, which aims to build a bridge between the industry and academia, witnessed invited talks and panel discussions by industry experts. Ten projects were selected to be presented in the conference under the Project Innovation Contest, which aims to motivate the student community to develop projects with innovative ideas. Two other sister concern events held on the sidelines of the 18th ICDCIT were 1st Workshop and 1st Ph.D. Research Symposium. Several accepted theses were presented in the later.

On the concluding day, the 1st Technical Session was addressed by Dr. Dipti Prasad Mukherjee, Deputy Director and Professor (HAG) Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit, CCSD, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata on “Deep Learning or Cheap Learning”, followed by Dr. Bikash Santra, Visiting Scientist, Electronics and Communication  Sciences Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata on “Let’s Recognize Objects in Images: From Theory to Practice (Part- I)” and Mr. Saikat Sarkar, Dept. of Computer Science, Bangabasi College, University of Calcutta on “Let’s Recognize Objects in Images: From Theory to Practice (Part- II)”. In the 2nd Technical Session was addressed by Dr. Rituparna Sarkar Scientific Researcher, Institut Pasteur on “Deep learning applications for bio-image informatics”.

The valedictory ceremony was addressed by Prof. (Dr). Bhabani Shankar Prasad Mishra, Dean (Academics), School of Computer Engineering; Dr. Raju Bapi, Program Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022, IIIT Hyderabad; Prof (Dr.) Manas Ranjan Lenka, Co-Chair, 1st Ph.D. Research Symposium, 18th ICDCIT 2022; Prof. (Dr.) Chittranjan Pradhan, Co-Chair 11th Project Innovation Contest, 18th ICDCIT 2022; Prof. (Dr.) Samaresh Mishra, Conference Management Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Subhasis Dash, Organizing Chair, 18th ICDCIT 2022.
