KIDS Organizes Inter-University Deliberations

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be University in collaboration with AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (NITTE Deemed to be University, Mangalore) was engaged in a series of online Journal club presentations from the month of May to October 2020. The entire event was possible because of the able guidance and support of the KIDS administration.

All the faculty members and the Post Graduate Trainees along with their respective Heads of the Department; Prof. (Dr.) Balaji Manohar (Dept. of Periodontology, KIDS, Bhubaneswar) and Prof. (Dr) Biju Thomas (Dept. of Periodontology, ABMIDS, Mangalore) participated in the virtual academic event.

Following research studies were discussed:

Ø  Long term assessment of rot coverage stability using connective tissue graft with or without an epithelial collar for gingival recession treatment- A 12 year follow-up from a randomized clinical trial.

Ø  Free gingival grafts for implants exhibiting a lack of keratinized mucosa- Extended follow-up of randomized clinical trial.

Ø  Human intrabony defect regeneration with micro grafts containing dental pulp stem cells- A randomized clinical trial.

Ø  Efficacy of lateral bone augmentation performed simultaneously with dental implant placement- A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Ø  Randomized clinical trial evaluating single maxillary gingival recession treatment with connective tissue graft and tunnel or trapezoidal flap: 2-year follow-up.

Ø  Randomized clinical study using xenograft blocks loaded with bone morphogenetic protein‐2 or autogenous bone blocks for ridge augmentation – A three‐dimensional analysis

The discussions by postgraduate trainees were moderated by the faculty of both the institutes. The topics discussed are the most recent studies conducted in various parts of the world. The advantages, drawbacks and limitations of these studies were also considered.
