International Francophonie Day celebrated at KIIT DU

 to promote learning of French language & culture

The Department of Language & Literature, School of Liberal Studies, KIIT Deemed to be University successfully organized the International Francophonie Day on 20th March 2026. The event aimed to celebrate the richness, diversity, and global significance of the French language and Francophone cultures.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse group of attendees, including students from various Schools of KIIT such as Law, Engineering, Liberal Studies, Biotechnology and Mass Communication who are studying French. The presence of international students from French-speaking West African countries like Guinea and Mali further enriched the cultural exchange. Students and teachers from KiiT International School also participated actively, adding great vibrancy and enthusiasm to the event.

The event commenced with the Welcome Address by Mr. Sameer Kumar Das, Associate Dean, Department of Language & Literature. The inaugural session featured the launch of “Klub Lumière”, the French Society of KIIT, and the unveiling of the book “Bonjour Bharat” authored by Dr. A. K. Soni, Assistant Professor (French). The session was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Sakshi Kaul, Dean, School of Liberal Studies; Ambassador Debraj Pradhan (Retd.), Senior Director General – International Relations; and Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee, Director General, KIIT, who highlighted the importance of learning foreign languages and fostering global cultural understanding.

The inaugural session was followed by the cultural segment. The performances were conducted entirely in French, reflecting the participants’ linguistic proficiency and cultural appreciation.

The programme included a variety of performances such as singing, dance, poetry recitation, a skit, and speeches. These performances showcased creativity, confidence, and a deep engagement with the French language. The event also featured several engaging and creative activities including poster making, a photo booth, and interactive caricature and face painting booths. These attractions were very well received by students as well as dignitaries, contributing to a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Nisha Tiwari, Assistant Professor (French).

Overall, the celebration was a grand success, marked by enthusiastic participation from university students, school students, and international students The event has effectively promoted cultural exchange and highlighted the growing interest in French language and Francophone cultures within the KIIT community.
