]]>KIIT-TBI, the technology business incubator of the KIIT-Deemed-to-be-University, along with Academic Health Science Network, Yorkshire and Humber and Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation (BCKIC) has been organising a three-day UK-India HealthTech Bootcamp with top 25 start-ups from the pan-Indian digital healthcare sector, to navigate and scale their healthtech business to the UK and the world.
These three days of extensive bootcamp was run by the delegation from Yorkshire & Humber AHSN team Dr Neville Young, Mr Tim East, Mr Tom Hutchinson and Ms Dace Dimza-Jones and British High Commission India team, Ms Leena Paul, Mr Deep Narayan, Mr Abhishek Jha & Mr Sandip Chaudhuri.
On the second day of the event, Science and Technology Minister Government Odisha, Ashok Chandra Panda, hoped that with the post-COVID experience, the focus had already been shifted to the technology-enabled health-care delivery sector with emphasis on genomics and bio-engineering-led early and preventive interventions. However, citing a very important part of the current urban living due to nuclear families and isolated lives, the Minister called upon the participating start-ups to do artificial intelligence (AI) and other IT-based tool-enabled work to help the senior citizens suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s types of neurological disorders.
The COVID management steps taken by the Odisha Government, Social Security Schemes for the elderly during the pandemic, BSKY benefits and lauded the role of KIMS Hospital, a constituent of KIIT-DU, as a leading healthcare hub to come to the rescue of the people of Odisha, Mr. Panda added.
Acting British Deputy High Commissioner Peter Cook, in his speech, appreciated the enthusiasm of 150 applications for the bootcamp and wished that in near future the platform would enable the healthtech ventures to get to work in the markets of UK, US, Latin American, EU and other world centers.
Narrating the role of AI, IT-tools, genomics and biotech research in having an e-diagnostics and e-consultation frameworks to help the patients, especially in remote and rural pockets in future, Cook said “predictability in the healthcare delivery will definitely have an edge over others in near future.’’ Mr Peter Cook also hoped that this unique event through KIIT-TBI and BCKIC will also help the academic community in the health sector and also National Health Service (NHS) and UK health ecosystem.
CEO KIIT-TBI and Chairman- BCKIC Dr Mrutyunjay Suar said “the extensive course during the healthtech bootcamp would provide the start-ups an update on the UK’s healthcare ecosystem and market, access to subject matter experts and the opportunity to engage directly with NHS stakeholders.’’ KIIT-TBI has successfully incubated 380 startups and created more than 5,000 job opportunities in various sectors with innovative ideas and solutions. Besides healthtech, it is also contributing in the sectors like agriculture, IT, engineering, core healthcare, environment, wastewater treatment, water quality and many others, he stated.
In the concluding session, Mr Shankar N Ram, Chairman, TiE Global provided the perspective of TiE chapters in supporting startups including women entrepreneurs. He praised the role of KIIT TBI in establishing and amplifying the startup ecosystem in the Country and extended all support from TiE Global to scale it up.

]]>The G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (G20-DIA) meet at KIIT-TBI was held today with emphasis on creating awareness among youth, innovators and start-ups to recognize and support young minds that are working on digital solutions and also planning to participate in the mega summit in Bengaluru in August, this year.
Chairing the inaugural function, Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta said “startup is very close to my heart. Now through startups and ideas enterprising youths can reach the pinnacle of success. Citing the example of KIITian Gautam Kumar, Co-Founder and COO of FarEye, the noted educationist, however, added that while the concept, has taken the world by storm, was never heard during our time.’’
Dr. Samanta, lauding Prime Minister’s visionary initiative to empower the youth of India to propel our economic progress in a new direction during the president-ship of the G-20, also informed that KIIT-DU will be a venue for important events like Youth-20, Think-20 and Civil-20 in near future. He also said that KIIT-TBI has successfully incubated 380 startups and created more than 5,000 job opportunities in various sectors with innovative ideas and solutions.
Jeet Vijay, CEO MeitY Startup Hub under Ministry of Electronics and IT, while giving the introductory remarks, said “currently there are more than 90,000 startups in India and the August G20-DIA Startup Conclave in Bengaluru would be one of the biggest event for the G-20 nations to take the evolution of start-up ecosystem to a different level as there would be showcasing of 174 concepts which would be short-listed for all the submissions from the participating nations.’’
Saying that India has revolutionized the UPI payment system in its economic framework and now billions are getting transacted daily through the digital gateway enabled by the Government, the participation of youth through this “Digitization: Enabling India’s Tech Growth’’ would definitely help the entire world.
Former Secretary Technology Development Board under Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, HK Mittal spoke about how, as a role model the Founder of KIIT and KISS, Dr. Samanta has become an inspiration through his experiment with education and bringing in inclusive socio-cultural changes in a state like Odisha and outside, as well.
Remembering the Y2K crisis during the technological issues relating to the transition of time from the last midnight of 1999 to 2000, and how Indian techies had helped the entire world with their expertise and knowledge, Mittal also urged the young students and members of the startup communities to set their goals on G20-DIA and bring in more innovations to the digital world.
CEO of KIIT TBI Prof Mrutyunjay Suar, while welcoming the guests, also said how the KIIT-TBI has been awarded as the best TBI in India and has been patronising technological and entrepreneurial innovations in a unique way through the support from the Centre and State Government.
During the subsequent sessions post-inauguration, KIITian Gautam Kumar, Co-Founder and COO of FarEye, Satya Gupta CEO Epic Foundation, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar Director IIT Bhubaneswar, noted entrepreneur Sidharth Mohanty and other noted experts participated in the G20-DIA meet. Captains of successful start-ups, entrepreneurs, senior government officials and academic leaders on Friday converged at the KIIT-TBI organised Start-up Innovation Conclave 1.0 and highlighted the need to develop a vibrant ecosystem to promote and encourage budding talents to set up enterprises in the East and North-eastern part of the country.
The poster boy of the Indian start-up industry Gautam Kumar, the co-founder and COO of FarEye and a proud alumnus of KIIT Deemed-to-be-University, emphasised developing ideas and businesses that touch all segments of society. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to KIIT and KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, who was present at the event, for extending financial support to his idea and venture that has gone on to become a unicorn today.
Vice Chancellor of KIIT DU Prof. Sasmita Samanta said that when Gautam had approached the university for financial assistance to the tune of Rs 25 lakh, the Founder did not hesitate once to extend support to him as he values and promotes entrepreneurship.
The two-day event is being organised as part of the ongoing Silver Jubilee Celebrations of KIIT.
Union Secretary in the Ministry of the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Lok Ranjan made a spirited appeal for setting up enterprises in the North-eastern region and said that the general perception that start-ups cannot be developed in this part of the country needs to be set aside. “Our vision in the northeast is to have a transformative impact in the region through development. We will focus on infra, health, education, and primary sector development through entrepreneurship,” he said. A short video clip was played during his address following which the Secretary said that the presentation gives an idea about the challenges that can be converted into opportunities.
Secretary, Technology Development Board (TDB) Rajesh Kumar Pathak said the challenge before him is to set up the ecosystem in smaller towns to support entrepreneurship and start-ups that are mostly concentrated in big cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Gurugram. He announced that one of the proposals supported by them will soon become a reality as the start-up will produce malaria vaccine for the world in Bhubaneswar soon.
Former Secretary TBI H K Mittal, who has been a regular visitor to the KIIT campus, hailed the achievements of KIIT-TBI for being the premier centres of its kind in the country and successfully creating hundreds of start-ups in the country.
Director General of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) Ahmedabad Sunil Shukla underscored the need to develop an entrepreneurial mindset in the country and shared a study of his institute which revealed that 52 percent of aspiring minds lack the confidence to take their venture ahead. However, the study also revealed that there has been a 15 percent increase this year while capturing the engagement of people towards entrepreneurship. This has reduced to only 5 per cent during the Covid phase.
Dr Samanta, on the other hand, encouraged budding entrepreneurs to take up challenges to be successful in the venture. He said that KIIT is a shining example of successful entrepreneurship. KIIT’s sister concern KISS, he said the largest university worldwide for tribal students and has won UNESCO’s highest literary honour.

]]>KIIT Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI) has been chosen as one of the five incubation partners for the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), a Department of Defence Production, Govt. of India initiative that aims to achieve self-reliance and foster innovation and technology development in Defence and Aerospace. This was announced at the Manthan Program during DefExpo-2022 in Ahmedabad on 18th October 2022 in the presence of Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Defence Minister of India; Dr. Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary; Shri Sanjay Jaju, Additional Secretary, Defence Production; General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff; General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff; Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff; and Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff.
As a partner incubator of iDEX, KIIT-TBI will build Defense-related startups’ capacity and mentor them towards scale. ]]>A Medical Scientist Peer Support Program (CPSP) was initiated in collaboration with KIIT School of Biotechnology and KIIT-TBI. It aims at building capacities of interdisciplinary teams and sailing together. A team of 30 medical scientists led by Dr. P. K. Patnaik, DG, KIMS and consisting of Dr. R. C. Das, Vice-Principal; Dr. Ramnath Mishra, Dean R&D; Dr. B. K. Mohanty, Director, KIIMS Onco-Center; and Dr. H. Kar, HOD-Skin had a collaborative meeting with Dr. M. Suar, DG R&D, KIIT and his team at KIIT-TBI.
To start with Dr. Patnaik urged the young clinicians to take the advantage of initiation and facilitation rendered by KIIT-TBI and KSBT. He put forward his vision of quality publication with help of KSBT. He also requested the Director of KSBT to use the clinical material and lab for their PhD students and vice versa for clinicians. Dr. Patnaik emphasized on hand holding the clinicians from KIMS, KINS and KIDS for getting project grants.
Prof. Gopal Kundu, Director, R&D KIIT discussed initial steps for future research and his eagerness to help out clinicians for grant writing. Prof. R. Mishra elucidated the significance of molecular biology, basic science and interdisciplinary collaboration for impact publication. Dr. Nirmal Mahakud from KIMS, Dr. Lita and Dr. Vidya from KIDS shared their experiences of association with KSBT. They mostly talked about the help they received from KSBT in converting their ideas into project and grant approval and finally quality paper and patent rights.
Prof. M. Suar put forward his vision of clinician-driven innovation in the country. He assured to join hands with KIMS and translate their clinical knowledge into innovative solutions. He thanked the leadership of KIMS for all their support to make it happen. Prof. S. Patnaik and Mrs. Namroto Mishra, CEO, KIIT-TBI assured their wholehearted support for this scientific initiative. All participants expressed their sincere obligation to Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for building an enabling ecosystem.

Dr. Badamali said that nature has the best 3D printers like weaver bird, termite house, honeycomb and development of fetus from zygote. The 3D printing should take inspiration from nature. Addressing the women entrepreneurs, The Minister said, “Ideas govern the world”. The Startup will definitely help you as most people find solutions in the society. If you are smart enough, then you get better solution which is needed in the society. He urged the budding women entrepreneurs to be part of this change and excel in whatever fields they are.
In his address, The Principal Secretary of MSME, Govt. of Odisha, Sri Hemanta Sharma, I.A.S. said, the programme is meant to give a sense of security and sense of ecosystem to those women who want to take up entrepreneurship. It is like a sense of confidence and sense of belongingness which the Govt. is trying to set up for women entrepreneurs. To be a woman entrepreneur is a challenging task. Nevertheless, they have become good entrepreneurs.
Mr. Gautam Anand, (Startup India) said that while there are nearly 27000 recognized Startups in India today, out of those only 13.74% are led by women. According to a recent survey, women led companies have yielded 63% more revenues than their male counterparts. Right Startup with right approach is definitely a nationwide campaign having its impact across 26 states of the country to encourage more and more women entrepreneurs. It is not just a mere Workshop but a Collaborative Platform, where stakeholders come together and understand each other.
At the outset, Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, CEO, KIIT TBI underlined KIIT TBI in a nutshell. Encouraging the women entrepreneurs, he said, all of you have to march ahead so that Odisha will be proud of you. You have to build Startups, strategies and successful examples. KIIT TBI has a centre of excellence. Excellence and eminence have become the trend of KIIT Deemed to be University. Percentage of women entrepreneurs is growing in Startup Odisha which is doing a lot of work for them.
Some of the leading women entrepreneurs of the state were felicitated on the occasion.

KIIT TBI has received National award for TBI of the year 2017 from President of India at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. This award is instituted by Department of Science and technology, Govt of India with prize award of 5 lakh, memento and citation.
It is also exciting moment for KIIT-TBI as its one of the innovative company CyCaOncosolutions pvt ltd received National award for best innovative start up company from the President of India at Vigyan Bhawan. This award is instituted by Technology Development Board (TDB), Govt of India with prize money of 15.0lakh.
