The Research Project Division of the ICSSR  awarded a research project titled “A study of different dialects implementation of Odia language for NEP compilation using Artificial Intelligence: Use Case for Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences”  to a team of faculty members from School of Computer Engineering, KIIT DU.

The faculty team consists of Dr. Manjusha Pandey, Project Director and  Associate Professor at School of Computer Engineering(SCE), KIIT DU; Dr. Siddharth Swarup Rautaray  Co-Project Director and  Associate Professor, SCE, KIIT DU; and Dr. S.N. Mishra  Co-Project Director and  Professor at KIIT School of Management.

Remarkably, this is the third research project in a row from ICSSR, sanctioned to the team of Faculty members of KIIT School of Computer Engineering.

The School of Computer Engineering, KIIT-DU organized the 20^th OITS International Conference on Information Technology, technically co-sponsored by IEEE Kolkata Section and IEEE Bhubaneswar sub-section, in hybrid mode from 14-16 December 2022. The meet featured keynote addresses by Prof. Saraju P. Mohanty, University of North Texas, USA; Prof. Himanshu Thapliyal, University of Tennessee, USA; and Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU. Prof. Amit Kumar Mishra, University of Cape Town and Dr. Arif Ahmed, Experienced Researcher, Ericsson, Sweden delivered the invited talks.

The OCIT-22 attracted participants from all over the globe with major presence from India and USA. Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU; Prof Biswajit Sahoo, Director-General, KIIT School of Computer Engineering; Dr. Niranjan K. Ray, Program Chair; and Dr. Pinaki S. Chatterjee, Organizing Chair spoke at the inaugural session.

More than 100 papers were presented over the three days. The proceedings will be published by IEEE-CS Conference Publication Services (CPS) and will be indexed in Scopus and DBLP. The Organizing Team thanked Prof. Sasmita Samanta and Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty for their guidance and support.

Dr. Niranjan K. Ray, Associate Professor, School of Computer Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University received the IEEE Outstanding Service Award for 2022 from IEEE Computer Society, Bio-inspired Computing STC. The School of Computer Engineering, KIIT-DU, in association with the Center for Soft Computing Research and Physics and Applied Mathematics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata organized the IEEE Computer Society Technical Co-sponsored 5^th International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Networks (CINE 2022) from 1^st to 3^rd December 2022.

The international conference attracted technical papers from all over the world. CINE has a reputation for maintaining high ethical and research standards in the review process. The acceptance rate was merely 22% at this edition of the conference.

There were six keynote speakers: Prof. Kouichi Sakurai, Kyushu University, Japan; Prof. Jürgen Kurths, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Humboldt University Berlin, Germany; Dr. Min Xu, Computational Biology Department, Carnegie Mellon University, USA; Dr. Jyotirmoy Karjee, SAMSUNG R&D Institute, India; Dr. Sandip Ghosal, MathWorks R&D, India, and Dr. Soumyabrata Dey, Clarkson University, USA. Authors presented their works both online and offline. Besides, CINE 2022 had two sister events: Doctoral Symposium and Tutorials.

Dr. Rajdeep Chatterjee (Co-founder of the CINE series) and Dr. Tanmoy Moitra, Organizing Chairs on behalf of the organizing committee, expressed gratitude to Prof. Achutya Samanta, Founder KIIT and KISS for his constant encouragement. The SCE also thanked Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU and Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar for their guidance and support.

School of Computer Engineering, KIIT DU in association with The British University, Dubai UAE, and University of Salford, Manchester UK, organized the inaugural edition of IEEE sponsored International Conference on Advancements in Smart, Secure & Intelligent Computing (ASSIC 2022) on 19^th and 20^th November 2022. ASSIC 2022 is technically sponsored by IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Computer Society Bio-inspired Computing.

Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Pro-VC, KIIT DU; Prof. (Dr.) Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar KIIT DU and General Chair ASSIC 2022; Prof. (Dr.) Biswajit Sahoo, Director-General, School of Computer Engineering, KIIT DU, along with Dr. Hrudaya Kumar Tripathy, Program Chair ASSIC 2022; and Dr. Sushruta Mishra, Organizing Chair ASSIC 2022 graced the inauguration ceremony. Prof. (Dr.) Khaled Fouad Sayed Shaalan from The British University in Dubai UAE; and Prof. (Dr.) Tarek Gaber, University of Salford, Manchester UNK, graced the occasion as the chief guests  through virtual mode.

Prof. Khaled Fouad Sayed Shaalan, chief guest, in his address, emphasized on the importance of secure and intelligent computing that can solve the critical societal challenges. Prof. Tarek Gaber, chief guest, expressed his happiness on the theme of the conference and asked the budding authors and researchers to explore more effective solutions to societal problems using smart, secure, and intelligent computing.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Hrudaya Kumar Tripathy, program chair ASSIC 2022, welcomed all the dignitaries, authors, and other delegates to the conference and outlined the significance of the conference theme to the audience. Prof. (Dr.) Biswajit Sahoo, in his remarks, informed the audience about the silver jubilee year of KIIT DU. Further, Dr. Sahoo emphasized on making the existing computing techniques smarter and more secure.

Prof. (Dr.) Sasmita Samanta, Vice Chancellor KIIT DU, conveyed her best wishes for the success of the conference. On behalf of Founder Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta. Prof. (Dr.) Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, General Chair ASSIC 2022, spoke on the importance and applicability of secured and intelligent computing in solving real-life problems.

Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Pro-VC KIIT DU, delivered the presidential address in the inauguration ceremony. In his address, Dr. Singh spoke about some intriguing facts about the IT & ITES industries and highlighted how the theme of ASSIC 2022 will address those challenges. He extensively talked about the need of doing translational research that will enable the budding authors and researchers to tackle the intellectual property battle effectively. Dr. Singh outlined the relevance of start-up culture evolving worldwide. He advised the authors and researchers to work more rigorously towards the smart and secured computing that has the potential to open the floodgates of new verticals in the start-up culture.

Dr. Sushruta Mishra gave vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, authors, and other delegates. The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 100 participants from different parts of India and abroad in hybrid mode.

Akshita Sah,  B.Tech. undergraduate student of KIIT Deemed to be University, under the guidance of Dr. Rajdeep Chatterjee, Associate Professor and Prof.  Mahendra Kumar Gourisaria, Assistant Professor  at  KIIT School of Computer Engineering, bagged the Best Paper Award for their paper titled “Machine Learning Approaches to Assess Mood of the News Editorial” in Track-Y: Social Implications of Technology. The paper was presented at the 8^th International Conference on Electronics, Computing and Communication Technologies, IEEE CONECCT-2022 organized by IEEE Bangalore Section from July 8-10, 2022.

The team got praises and positive feedback for the paper. Social media and news channels have always been vital sources for disseminating information and raising awareness about recent occurrences. News channel networks and editorials were one of the first places where knowledge regarding Covid – 19 was widely disseminated. In this study, authors proposed a sentiment analysis model to categorize tweets by some of India’s most well-known news stations into positive and negative during the pandemic.

He discussed Balancing Performance and Safety in Autonomous Vehicles, ways to generate the most competitive agents, Multi-domain optimization of autonomous systems, using machine learning and reinforcement learning. His lecture immensely   benefited the graduate students with an opportunity to get a head start in Machine Learning and robotics, which is an emerging technology in the field of Computer Science.
