]]>Continuing its inspirational event of Alumni Talk Series to share the experiences of the alumni to excel in professional life, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, organised its 11th edition in virtual mode on October 30. The topic was “Preparation for competitive examinations: Navigating the path to become a registered nurse in the US”. The introductory remarks and welcome address was delivered by Prof. Niyati Das, Principal KINS.
The alumni talk was given by. Kalpana Gupta, Field Research Officer, Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). She shared her experiences of the college days and spoke about NCLEX (National Council Licensing Examination) and highlighted that NCLEX is the gateway test that one needs, to clear the competence level to practice nursing profession in countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the world.
She also guided the students regarding various reading materials required for NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN, NCLEX-Registered Nurses and NCLEX-Practical Nurses respectively as two different levels and also emphasized the steps of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) documentation process.
All the Faulty members of KINS and B.Sc. third year nursing students participated in the virtual alumni talk series. Vote of thanks was proposed by Debashree Kar, Tutor, KINS.

]]>Mental Health Nursing Department of Kalinga Institute Of Nursing Sciences (KINS) , a constituent of KIIT-DU, observed World Mental Health Day on October 10 at Harekrishna Nagar, Niladri Vihar with the theme “Mental health is a universal human right.”
World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma and is observed annually.
The programme started with a rally on the road of Niladri Vihar and outstanding psycho-education was given to the community people through role play on “Distinct Strategies of Prevention of Mental Disorders and Rights of Mentally Ill Persons” by GNM second year students, which took a crucial role to create awareness and disseminate the useful information on promoting mental health, preventive measures, warning signs, role of support systems of preventing various mental disorders among general people and their caregivers. Around 100 participants (family members, students and faculties of Mental Health Nursing Department) attended the programme.
The programme ended with a speech about the importance of support to the mentally ill patients in the society as well as creating hope within a person to live his/her life .
It was a very effective and enriched event with knowledge, awareness sharing and locals also got engaged enthusiastically in the entire process.

]]>Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, successfully organised a five-day orientation programme from September 26 to 30, for newly-enrolled students of M.Sc and B.Sc Nursing, to introduce them to the Nursing course, familiarize them to the campus environment, the amenities and infrastructure created by the visionary Founder of KIIT-KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta.
Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das Principal, KINS welcomed the newly-admitted students of the 2023 Batch. In her speech she motivated all students to pursue their dreams and use the enormous facilities provided on the campus. Dr. Anasuya Pattnaik, HoD, Community Health Nursing, KINS spoke about the rules and regulations of the institute and advised the students to abide by them. She also highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of the Founder Dr. Samanta.
The students took a campus tour of KIIT-DU and also visited all the departments of Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), KIMS Super Specialty Hospital and KIMS Cancer Centre. They were introduced to their respective mentors followed by a formal introduction of the students, Faculties and non-teaching staff.
During the orientation programme KINS assessed the learning levels of the students and organised special sessions for debate, quiz, essay writing etc to identify the fast and slow learners.
Associate Professor Nibedita Mohanty explained M.Sc Nursing curriculum and Assistant Professor Devasmita Sahoo and Tutour Smruti Rekha Sahoo discussed B.Sc Nursing curriculum and activities concerned.

]]>Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU celebrated World Heart Day (WHD) on September 29, with the theme “Use Heart, Know Heart”. World Heart Day is celebrated every year on this day to raise awareness on heart diseases and preventive measures that can help prevent and manage cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Niyati Das, Principal, KINS. She welcomed Prof. Panchanan Sahoo Senior Cardiologist from Department of Cardiology, KIMS and Prof. Ashokan R, HoD, Medical Surgical Nursing and introduced the WHD.
Prof. Panchanan Sahoo spoke about the significance of celebration of WHD and on awareness for cardiovascular health. An estimated 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2019 which represents 32% of all global deaths.
Prof. Sahoo gave the special message to every citizen that to bring awareness regarding prevention of CVDs we have to take care of certain disease like diabetes mellitus, managing cholesterol level, to take well-balanced diet, doing regular exercises and check-up which can reduce CVDs and also noted that “happy heart is a healthy heart’’.
After the talk there was an interaction and doubt clearing session among students and the programme was anchored by Prangyashree Nanda, Assistant Prof. KINS. Vote of thanks was proposed by Chandan Pradhan, Associate Professor KINS. All the faculties of KINS and 4th semester B.sc Nursing students participated.
The session was very educational as they made the students enrich their knowledge on CVDs and their prevention.

]]>Department of Psychiatric Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, observed World Suicide Prevention Day on September, 9 at Psychiatric Ward of Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) with the theme for the year “Creating hope through action”.
World Suicide Prevention Day is observed annually to raise awareness on prevention of suicide throughout the globe. The event started with a note on importance of celebrating the day and the theme of the year by third-year B.Sc (Nursing) students. Then the programme was extended to an outstanding role play on “Suicidal prevention day Strategies” by the third-year students of BSc Nursing, which was about to take a crucial role on creating awareness and disseminate useful information on preventive measures, warning signs, role of support systems of preventing suicide among psychiatric patients and their care givers, who were admitted in the wards of KIMS, Bhubaneswar.
The students put forth messages that people with stress should have thought about their life’s value as the first priority for self and not to set value of self by the judgment of others. Around 90 participants (patients, family members, students and staff) attended the programme.
Next to this, poster presentation was done by B.Sc. (Nursing) third-year students to improve the knowledge of the public on causes of suicide and supportive system for prevention of suicide, and value for one’s own life.
The programme ended with the speech about importance of suicide-free society, familial support as well as creating hope within a person to live his or her life, even though it has ups and downs.
The observance was very effective and enriched with knowledge, awareness and really a fruitful one as the patients and their family members also got encaged enthusiastically in it.

The seminar started with a welcome address by Jayashree Pradhan,Tutor, KINS. Speaking on the topic “Steps of research process”, Prof.Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal of KINS highlighted the basics of research and phases of quantitative and qualitative analysis.
This was followed by a talk on “Research approach and design” byProf. Asokan R, R&D in-charge and HoD of Medical Surgical Nursing Dept, KINS by citing various examples.

]]>Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU organised its alumni meet “Kalpita” on August 18. The alumni meet was to reconnect with the old students and celebrate their success stories and achievements.
The programme started with lighting of the lamp and on behalf of KINS family and Principal KINS Prof.(Dr.) Niytai Das extended a warm welcome to all the alumni and faculty members. She also gave a brief talk on the importance of strengthening the alumni network.
Vice-Principal KINS Prof. Kalyani Rath welcomed the participants and congratulated them for their success and encouraged them to use their own ideas to solve their own challenges in life. At the meet 2018-2022 batch B.Sc Nursing and 2020-2022 batch M.Sc Nursing pass out students were present. Students shared their own experiences at KINS as well as their working places.

]]>Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing and Child Health Nursing Departments of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2023 from August 1 to 7 with the theme “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents”, for the year 2023.
To sensitize the community on breastfeeding, a theme-based role play was also enacted by second year GNM students at Urban Health Training Centre, Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar. This programme was successful with participation of community members.
A quiz competition was organized to assess the knowledge on breastfeeding among students of MSc. Nursing and BSc. Nursing students. With the motive of developing hands-on training skills, a workshop was organized by first and second year MSc. Nursing students (O & G Nursing and Child Health Nursing specialities) on various aspects like Antenatal assessment, Postnatal assessment, Neonatal resuscitation, Essential Newborn Care, Labour management and Partograph. Each station was equipped with audio-visual aids and a checklist.
All BSc Nursing third year and GNM second year students attended the workshop in phases. This workshop was immensely beneficial to the students with evaluation of pre and post tests. It was followed by a formal meeting organized at KIDS auditorium in the presence of the students and faculties of KINS.
Prof.(Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS unfolded the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2023 which was followed by a keynote address by Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal, KINS. The celebration became vibrant with the presence of Prof. (Dr) Santosh Kumar Panda, Neonatologist, HOD, NICU, KIMS. Prizes were distributed among winners of the quiz competition. Associate Prof. Purnima Sahoo, KINS proposed vote of thanks.

]]>The Kalinga Institute of Nursing Science (KINS), a constituent under KIIT-Deemed-to-be-University, conducted Virtual Alumni Talk Series-10 on July 22 on the topic “Public Speaking and Entrepreneurship in Health Care’’.
Following a welcome address by Prof. Kalyani Rath ,Vice- Principal, KINS, Geetanjali Das, entrepreneur from Jagatsinghpur started the alumni talk. She was a student of KINS 2014-2016 Batch with Medical Surgical Nursing Speciality. She shared her experiences about college days and the importance of public speaking in the health care sector.
She discussed about entrepreneurial ventures and also highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in health care settings and said that it becomes possible when health care professionals create new business openings through developing services, tools or ideas.
She illustrated the most profitable business in the health care setting such as – tele health software solutions, medical equipment rental and maintenance services, nurse consigner services, medical staffing agency, online pharmacy mobile apps and much more. She classified the characteristics of entrepreneurs and types of entrepreneurship and also mentioned the steps in the process of entrepreneurship and functions of entrepreneurs.
She also dealt with public speaking, its types, purpose and career in public speaking, adding that it is the process of communicating information to a live audience and encouraged the students to develop leadership abilities because it helps to convey our ideas effectively to others.
All the faculties of KINS, B.Sc 3rd year and 2nd semester of nursing students participated in Virtual Alumni Talk Series -10. Vote of thanks was proposed by Purnima Sahoo, Associate Prof in Child Health Nursing. The session was very informative and interactive.
