The School of Fashion Technology, KIIT Deemed to be University conducted a Fashion Styling seminar on 25th November 2021, in collaboration with Maity Global Education. Mr. Raffaele Farrente, Design and Marketing Coach from Italy, Polimoda University delivered the guest lecture at the webinar, which was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Bauri Raula, Associate Professor & Course Coordinator, KSOFT; Ms. Biswaranjita Mahapatra, Faculty Associate; and Mr. Partha Sarathi Bal, Faculty Associate. A lively interaction was also made with the students and faculty members of KSOFT.

Around 120 participants consisting of students and faculty members from KSOFT attended the webinar. The students were given a wide range of ideas and guidance about fashion styling for brands, companies, e-commerce, advertisements, runway shows, commercial styling, art direction, fashion branding, styling for media such as movies, television shows, etc. The talk basically focused on sustainability and a brief idea was given about how to overcome the problems posed by nature with the help of technology.

Participants were given an idea on how advertising plays an important role in promoting the brand and increases its value as well as helps the audience gain the trust on the brand. In the industry of Fashion, technology becomes the bridge between the brand and the customer. In today’s world, the promotional trend takes place on various social media such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.

Using ‘Fashion Show’ as a marketing and communication tool is not for everyone, as in the initial stage neither everyone can afford

to conduct one, nor would the consumers be able to participate in the one, students were explained. It is widely seen that celebrities promote the brand and enhance its value, while consumers become easily able to adapt the brand without any second thought. The session was very interactive as many students were able to clear out their doubts.

Pramashree Kundu and Shova Chowdhury, students of 3rd year from KIIT School of Fashion Technology (KSOFT) secured 1st and 2nd position in ‘Best out of Waste’, a national level contest held by MANZIL 8.0 on 31st July 2021. ‘Manzil’, an open level competition organized by ‘All in One Entertainment Events’, aimed to provide a platform to individuals to showcase and enhance their talent. It focussed to summon variant potentials of youth in order to uplift cultural scope. As many as 30 events were organized including Best out of waste, logo design, mandala art, mono act, fashion style, financial quiz, puzzles, surprise event, sell it off, mock stock, social media influencing, etc., which were participated by youth from different parts of India.

According to Ms. Pranashree, the textile industry is considered as the most ecologically harmful industry in the world. The eco-problems in the textile industry occur during some production processes and are carried forward right to the finished product. In order to safeguard our environment from these effects, an integrated pollution control approach is needed. Therefore, she created a bathroom rug by recycling her mother’s old night gown. The night gown was of pure cotton knitted fabric. She used the braiding technique to recreate this bathroom rug.

Ms. Shova presented a pair of earrings out of paper. Taking ‘Recycle and Reuse’ as her inspiration, she says that newspapers are extremely important but ultimately end up as waste in our home. She also had many cardboards boxes from many e-commerce websites. So she thought of using them which can be recycled and reused for beneficial and creative purposes instead of laying as waste. She used a bunch of newspapers and cardboards and created beautiful, attractive earrings that any woman loves to wear and it won’t create any harm to the environment and it will be sustainable too.

Congratulating both the winners, CEO of SOFT, SMC, & SFMS Prof. Himanshu Sekhar Khatua said, “No pandemic situation can break down the morale of a student if he or she has the talent and passion to achieve the goal”. Prof. Bauri Raula, Course Coordinator of SOFT also congratulated the students and wished them good luck for the future.
