]]>Continuing its inspirational event of Alumni Talk Series to share the experiences of the alumni to excel in professional life, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent of KIIT-DU, organised its 11th edition in virtual mode on October 30. The topic was “Preparation for competitive examinations: Navigating the path to become a registered nurse in the US”. The introductory remarks and welcome address was delivered by Prof. Niyati Das, Principal KINS.
The alumni talk was given by. Kalpana Gupta, Field Research Officer, Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). She shared her experiences of the college days and spoke about NCLEX (National Council Licensing Examination) and highlighted that NCLEX is the gateway test that one needs, to clear the competence level to practice nursing profession in countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the world.
She also guided the students regarding various reading materials required for NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN, NCLEX-Registered Nurses and NCLEX-Practical Nurses respectively as two different levels and also emphasized the steps of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) documentation process.
All the Faulty members of KINS and B.Sc. third year nursing students participated in the virtual alumni talk series. Vote of thanks was proposed by Debashree Kar, Tutor, KINS.

]]>KIIT School of Rural Management (KSRM) organized a guest talk on “Effective Sales Promotion Strategy in the Agri-Input Sector” on 28th July 2023. The talk was delivered by Mr. Bibudatta Mishra, Regional Sales Manager (Field Crop), and Mr. Abhijit Samal, Area Sales Manager (Field Crop), Odisha at Pan Seeds Pvt. Ltd.
During the talk, Mr. Samal discussed the 4 P’s of sales strategy, sales initiatives, and branding strategy. He emphasized the importance of creating a brand that aligns with the company’s values. Additionally, he provided a glimpse of some successful promotional activities undertaken by Pan Seeds. On the other hand, Mr. Mishra delved into the topic of “Sales Effectiveness Training Program.” He took the participants through the different steps of group selling skills, explaining the selection and delivery of various types of pitches to dealers and retailers. Mr. Mishra also highlighted different promotional activities, including pre-sales activities, pilot programs, and demonstrations.
Mr. Bibudatta Mishra has more than two decades of experience in the agri-input sector. He had previously worked with Pioneer Seeds and also has experience in the sugar industry. On the other hand, Mr. Abhijit Samal pursued his MBA in Agribusiness Management from Utkal University and has been associated with Pan Seeds for close to five years.

]]>The Kalinga Institute of Nursing Science (KINS), a constituent under KIIT-Deemed-to-be-University, conducted Virtual Alumni Talk Series-10 on July 22 on the topic “Public Speaking and Entrepreneurship in Health Care’’.
Following a welcome address by Prof. Kalyani Rath ,Vice- Principal, KINS, Geetanjali Das, entrepreneur from Jagatsinghpur started the alumni talk. She was a student of KINS 2014-2016 Batch with Medical Surgical Nursing Speciality. She shared her experiences about college days and the importance of public speaking in the health care sector.
She discussed about entrepreneurial ventures and also highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in health care settings and said that it becomes possible when health care professionals create new business openings through developing services, tools or ideas.
She illustrated the most profitable business in the health care setting such as – tele health software solutions, medical equipment rental and maintenance services, nurse consigner services, medical staffing agency, online pharmacy mobile apps and much more. She classified the characteristics of entrepreneurs and types of entrepreneurship and also mentioned the steps in the process of entrepreneurship and functions of entrepreneurs.
She also dealt with public speaking, its types, purpose and career in public speaking, adding that it is the process of communicating information to a live audience and encouraged the students to develop leadership abilities because it helps to convey our ideas effectively to others.
All the faculties of KINS, B.Sc 3rd year and 2nd semester of nursing students participated in Virtual Alumni Talk Series -10. Vote of thanks was proposed by Purnima Sahoo, Associate Prof in Child Health Nursing. The session was very informative and interactive.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS welcomed the alumni speaker Soumika Debnath and congratulated her for her achievement and success.
Presently Soumika is working as an Assistant Professor, Institute of Child Health, Kolkata. She is a bright alumnii of M.Sc Nursing Programme (2016-2018 batch) under Child Health Nursing specialty. Speaking on “Adenovirus outbreak in children”, she highlighted the mode of transmission of the disease, clinical features, diagnostic methods, and treatment and prevention modalities in detail. At the end, a good interactive session was carried out with the speaker by the audience.
A token of appreciation was proposed by Pragyanshree Nanda, Tutor, KINS. Soumika also expressed her gratitude and thanks to all the faculty members of KINS. ]]>Oncologists from KIMS Cancer Centre (KCC) conducted a cancer awareness talk at Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Centre, Mundali as part of the community awareness programme of the state-of-art cancer care centre under the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Sabyasachi Parida, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, delivered an interactive talk on ‘’Combating Cancer: What your doctors do and what you can do.‘’ In an hour-long talk he discussed causes of cancer, the multidisciplinary management of cancer , showed examples of complex and advanced surgical procedures for cancer, prevention of cancer and promotion of health.
Gynecologic Oncologist, Dr. Ushashree Das discussed about the management and prevention of gynaecological cancers. The event was well attended by officers and all ranks of CISF Mundali and their families.
The interactive session involved good participation from everyone present at the venue and the KCC experts tried to address all the queries of the participants. All the attendees expressed their appreciation and thankfulness for the vital information presented to them by the oncologists from KCC.

]]>KIIT Deemed to be University organized a technical talk on “Making Tech-enabled Learning More Inclusive, Qualitative and Collaborative” on April 5th, 2023, as a part of the Jan Bhagidari campaign for the 3rd G20 Education Working Group Meeting. The talk was delivered by Prof. Ashok Kumar Tripathy, Former Director General, CPRI, Bengaluru. He discussed the era of computing technology, various tools and software for soft computing, advanced learning technology, collaborative projects, power system applications, challenges, green hydrogen, and various learning technologies.
Earlier, welcoming the speaker, Dr. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, QA Cell, KIIT motivated the participants to use qualitative approaches in various learning technologies. He discussed various technological developments and collaborative research. All faculty members, B. Tech, M.Tech students and PhD scholars, as well as laboratory technical assistants of KIIT School of Electrical Engineering, attended the event. ]]>KSRM organized a guest talk on “Building Climate Resilience of Odisha’s Coastal Communities”on 3rd March 2023.
The speaker for the talk was Mr. Dillip Mahapatra, Socio-Economic and Livelihoods Associate at United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In his talk, Mr. Mahapatra shared about cyclones, especially those which had hit the coasts of Odisha, damages caused and the strategies adopted by the government during the calamities. He elucidated about the Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project, developing resilience in the coastal communities especially some of the most vulnerable populations using an ecosystem centered and community-based approach.
Mr. Mahapatra elaborated on mangroves, their significance in the context of climate change and biodiversity preservation. He also shared about the importance of sea grass and salt marshes. and about the various policy measures and agreements on climate change, especially in the Indian context.
Mr. Dillip Mahapatra holds a postgraduate degree in Economics with specialization in Agricultural Economics and has extensive experience of more than 2 decades working for the FCDO (DFID), World Bank and Green Climate Fund (GCF), supported large scale externally aided projects in Odisha and other states working with the Government, International NGOs/ CSOs, Technical Support Partners and Community Institutions. He has domain expertise on implementation and management of rural development projects focusing on climate change; climate resilient livelihoods; climate resilient infrastructure; restoration of coastal ecosystem; rural livelihoods; value chain promotion and natural resource management through watershed plus approach.

]]>KSRM organized an Inspirational Talk for MBA (Rural Management), MBA (Agri-business Management) and Post Graduate Diploma in Community Development (PGDCD) students.
Mr. Brahmanand S Siingh, CEO and Founder of Mobius Films and Mobius Biopics Pvt. Ltd., delivered the talk by interacting with students from the school and asking them why they were there and what their purpose was. He went on to emphasize the significance of discovering one’s life’s larger purpose. He stated that one should not be limited by the trivialities of life. With the help of numerous stories, he instilled the importance of having a purpose-based mindset over a money-based mindset or a career-based mindset. He also discussed the significance of organisational and societal perceptions of having a high intelligent quotient (IQ). However, in this day and age, it should be backed up by the Social Quotient (SQ), Adversity Quotient, and Emotional Quotient (EQ). The speaker went on to discuss how important it is to look at things from a different perspective and how to improve one’s ability to see things differently. Working in this faculty allows one to perceive things differently and work more efficiently, he added.
His talk was filled with stories and examples from his life, making it very inspiring. He concluded his speech by reminding all of the students that whatever they give was the only thing that would remain with them.
Mr. Brahmanand S Siingh, is a multi-award-winning, well-known filmmaker, as well as a widely published author, speaker, and life coach. He has received two National Film Awards and the REX-KarmaVeer-Chakra Gold Award 2019, a United Nations-sponsored honour, for transforming lives through social impact projects and creating ideas of hope.

The speaker Mr. Laxminarayan Nanda, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF explained the child rights framework and his work around the protection of rights of a child. He briefed about the acts and policies that have been functioning for child protection rights like United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Justice Juvenile Act ( JJA) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POSCO). He shared about the Bharosa centre model of Telangana. He also spoke about the opportunities for the students as development professionals in the domain of child rights.
Mr. Nanda has more than 25 years of experience in the development sector having worked with agencies like UNDP, Room to Read and Save the Children UK. Mr. Nanda did his post graduation in MBA in Rural Management from XIMB, executive programme in Public Policy and Management from Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata and is pursuing PhD in Juvenile Justice from National Law University, Odisha.

]]>KIIT School of Biotechnology (KSBT) organized talks by four illustrious alumni – Ms. Swagatika Dash, Mr. Soumitra Pathak, Mr. Subhodeep Saha and Dr. Tanmay Nayak – under ‘Kuora Talk Series’ on 10th January 2023. Ms. Dash is a continuing Ph.D. scholar in Germany, while Mr. Pathak and Mr. Saha are pursuing the Ph.D. in Japan and at NIT, Durgapur respectively. The speakers enlightened the current students with their knowledge and experience as PhD scholars.
Interacting with the current students, Ms. Swagatika Dash, who is a 2015-20 batch alumni, said that her field of interest was microbiology and she successfully published a paper in 2017-18 in a prestigious internationally peer-reviewed Journal (3 Biotech) under the guidance of Dr. Snehasish Mishra, Faculty-in-Charge (Alumni), KSBT. It provided a fillip to her research career, she said, while narrating how she got into the Ph.D. course at the University of Osnabruck, Germany. She mentioned the DAAD Fellowship in Germany which funded positions that attract more students.
Mr. Soumitra Pathak, a 2015-20 batch alumni who is now a Ph.D. scholar at Hokkaido University, Japan, talked about the MEXT Scholarship Programme offered by The Embassy of Japan, India. Sharing his experience as a Research Scholar in Japan, he stated that proactive involvement in any job at hand could help one achieve one’s goals. Dr. Tanmay Nayak shared his experience as an MSc Applied Microbiology and Ph.D. (Environment Technology) student. He is presently working as Deputy Manager in a Hyderabad-based company that deals with antibodies.
Concluding the Kuora Talk Series 8, Dr. Snehasish Mishra emphasized the sense of belongingness with the Alma Mater, while summing up the most important points from the talks. Dr. Srinivas Patnaik, Dean, KSBT proposed the vote of thanks. The session was attended by students and faculty members of KSBT.
